Pay grade for this position is 17.General Definition of Work: Performs difficult paraprofessional work involving the determination or redetermination of the eligibility of applicants or recipients requesting financial, medical, or food assistance through the Department of Social Services. Work is circumscribed by a variety of federal, state and county court decisions, laws, policies, regulations, and procedures. Daily guidance and direction concerning program policies and regulations may be provided to eligibility specialist staff. Work is performed under regular supervision.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks: Performing initial determination/processing and/or recertification in the long-term care (LTC) programs. Interviewing, gathering information, assessing situations, taking, and processing applications, recertifications and process changes. Computing initial budgets and revising budgets as changes occur in the household or in income; entering and maintaining case data in the appropriate county and state systems; maintaining a caseload or participating in maintaining the case bank and reviewing all cases at designated review periods to determine a family's or individual's continuing eligibility; maintaining records, files, and confidentiality. Functioning with a great deal of independence with the responsibility for performing a variety of complex tasks and functions in the Medicaid/LTC/SA/PACE/CAP programs including performing two or more functions in the long-term care program; resolving complex problems/cases where the consequence of actions may have a considerable effect on the client and the medical institution; and review of work is minimal. Position may require work at a physical location away from the agency (hospital or medical setting).(These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed.
