Paramedic (I)- $49,316.80 - $58,968.00. ($23.71 - $28.35 per hour) Grade 18
Senior Paramedic (II) - $54,371.20 - $65,000.00. ($26.14 - $31.25 per hour) Grade 20
Initial placement for new employees is customarily at entry level through 35% percentile.

Responding to calls for emergency medical services; providing emergency medical care; driving; maintaining records and files; preparing reports.
- Responds to emergency calls as an ambulance driver or attendant.
- Performs emergency medical care in accordance with established written guidelines and verbal instructions from physicians.
- Determines extent of illness or injury and establishes priorities for required care.
- Transports persons to appropriate medical facilities.
- Completes a variety of forms and reports pertaining to activities.
- Maintains ambulance, equipment, and supplies in clean and proper working order.
- Attends training courses to update skills and improve proficiency.
- Assists with housekeeping, station maintenance, and routine office tasks.
- Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of the principles of anatomy and physiology; of the principles and techniques of emergency care, including diagnosis, proper treatment, and transportation; of medications including actions, indications, contraindications, dosages, and methods of administration; of advanced airway maintenance procedures; of equipment, protocols, skills, and supplies employed in the emergency care of patients and victims of accidents; and of the street and road system and physical layout of the county. Skill in diagnosing a victim's condition and applying emergency medical care. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; to keep records; to prepare reports; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, patients and their families, associates, and the general public.

Paramedic ( I Level) Education and Experience: $49,316.80- $58,968.00.
Requires graduation from high school or a GED and North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic Credential issued by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services. Requires completion of hazardous materials awareness course and emergency driver course. Prefer some experience and training in emergency medical care. Requires certifications in advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, international trauma life support, CPR, and national incident management systems.
Senior Paramedic (II Level) - Education and Experience: $54,371.20 - $65,000.00.
Requires graduation from high school or a GED, North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic Credential issued by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services, one year experience as a paramedic is required. Requires completion of hazardous materials awareness course and emergency driver course. One year of experience in Cabarrus County Emergency Medical Services as a paramedic is preferred. Successful completion of the Emergency Medical Services Standard Operating Guideline test, and successful completion of the Field Training Officer evaluation for the position. Requires successful completion Emergency Medical Services preceptor course. Requires certifications in advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, international trauma life support or pre-hospital trauma life support, CPR, and national incident management systems. Crisis Intervention Training 16-hour course (CIT) is required for the position but is not a pre-requisite for promotion. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
At the discretion of EMS Management an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Special Requirements:
Possession of an appropriate driver's license. Possession of all certifications for the position as required by the State of North Carolina and the department. Position is a safety-sensitive position as defined by the Drug Free Workplace Policy.
Physical Requirements:
This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 75 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, night vision, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils. The worker may be exposed to blood borne and airborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
