Cabarrus County Internship Program offers students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with Cabarrus County Government through internship opportunities.
The purpose of this internship is to provide meaningful professional public administration experience to collegiate students with proven academic performance and a strong desire to learn and contribute.

Compensation: $15 per hour worked (internships are not eligible for benefits)
Duration: Six-month duration. Ability to extend beyond the six-month requirement will depend on department needs and availability of funds.

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:
Conducting research and preparing materials; preparing documents and files; entering/updating information in various formats and systems

- Completes special projects as assigned.
- Gathers and compiles information.
- Prepares and presents reports and data.
- Produces a variety of documents, as maps, policies, procedures, programs, etc.
- Assists in the maintenance of information.
- Updates current information in existing formats and data systems.
- Attends and observes meetings.

Emergency Mangement Department Duties:
The Emergency Management internship offers hands-on experience.Disaster Preparedness Support – Assist in developing emergency response plans, updating hazard assessments, and organizing tabletop/functional exercises for staff and community members.
Policy & Procedure Review – Assist in reviewing and updating emergency management policies, procedures, and compliance documents to align with current regulations and best practices.
Logistics & Resource Management – Assist in inventorying emergency supplies, coordinating resource distribution, and ensuring equipment readiness for disaster response.
Social Media & Crisis Communication – Support the development of emergency communication strategies and develop a long-term social media plan to engage with the community prior to an incident or event.
Strategy Department Duties:
Relationship Development: Assist with building and maintaining relationships with County departments to facilitate strategic and operational alignment across various functions.
Data Analysis & Reporting: Collect, analyze and present data using Excel and PowerBI to generate reports that help leaders make decisions and meet reporting requirements.
Data-driven Recommendations: Perform basic data analysis to identify trends and provide actionable recommendations that enhance organizational performance.
Special Project Support: Assist with organizational development, process improvement and change management projects to help drive impactful organizational transformation.
Procurement Department Duties:
The Procurement internship offers hands-on experience.
- Vendors: Vendor research, assist vendors with registration
- P- Cards: Assist with p-card reconciliation, filing documents
- Office Assistance: Review excel spreadsheets to help maintain vendor database, basic Microsoft Office skills required
- Procurement: Learn local government procurement policies and procedures
Communications Department Duties:
The Communications and Outreach internship offers hands-on experience.
- Storytelling: with a focus on video production, writing, design and social media.
- Production/Editing: Assist with filming, editing and producing engaging content that highlights Cabarrus County services, events and initiatives.
- Creativity and Technical: Requires creativity, some technical skills and the willingness to participate in a true team environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices in the area of work or assignment; knowledge of research techniques relevant to the area of work; knowledge of data collection methods and techniques; knowledge of the equipment used in the area of work or assignment; proficiency in basic computer skills; ability to research and organize facts and present them in a simple and clearly written form; ability to prepare written reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants must be a recent graduate or currently attending an accredited college, university, law school, community college or technical institute.
- Applicants must carry a 2.5 or greater overall grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
- Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
- Applicants must be willing and able to work for the entire internship assignment period.
- Applicants must be able to provide legal proof of identity and work authorization within three working days of employment.
- Recent graduates are defined as completing all requirements for an associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational, or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution within the previous two (2) years.
Physical Requirements:
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
