Hours: 8:00 - 5:00 Monday - Friday, 30-40 hours per week

The Dentist delivers effective and efficient patient care in compliance with established clinical protocols while maintaining independent professional responsibility for patient care. The Public Health Dentist strives to meet agency goals and divisional development as administered by the Dental Director. Services may be provided in a fixed clinic, mobile dental facility or in a community-based setting. The Dentist will work with local health agencies and schools to provide dental health education and direct care services for patients.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality dental treatment including composite restoration, extractions, stainless steel crowns and emergency treatment
- Ensure the delivery of competent, accurate dental care to all patients as assigned
- Provide clinical direction to dental assistants and hygienists during day-to-day treatment
- ensure accuracy and appropriate confidentiality with patient charting and related recordkeeping
- Participate in community oral health program, including school-based program and community events
- Help foster a culture of evidence-based care and a positive environment for patients and staff
Education/Experience: Graduate of and have a DMD or DDS degree from a university or college accredited by the Commission of Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. Prior experience in general dentistry and pediatrics preferred.
License: Active license to practice dentistry in North Carolina; Active Controlled Substance Certificate (DEA) license. Current CPR certification, current driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge in the practice of clinical dentistry for adults and children, and basic principles of public health dental practice
- Ability to be sensitive to low income and ethnic minority community
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective communication with clients, co-workers and the general public
- Possess ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships utilizing emotional intelligence skills
- Ability to demonstrate a positive example of leadership
