Hours: 8:00 - 5:00 Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week
The Public Health Nurse I provides preventive health care to individuals and families by implementing nursing care and counsel for promotion of health and prevention of disease through visits in clinic. The PHN I will work with physicians, mid-level providers, WIC lab staff and community agencies.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Administer vaccines
- Perform procedures in the clinical setting
- Triage phone calls and walk-ins
- Conduct patient interviews and education
- Assist the clinical providers
- Patient referral and follow-up appointments
Education/Experience: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing. One year of experience required for non-BSN degree. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
License: Must have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina. Current CPR certification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- General knowledge of and skill in the application of nursing theory, practices, principles, and techniques employed in public health and related programs
- Knowledge of and ability to apply principles of public health, working knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to healthcare
- Working knowledge of available resources for patient population
- Ability to deal tactfully with others, and to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions
- Must be able to secure the cooperation of clients, elicit needed information, and maintain effective working relationships
- Accurately record services rendered and interpret and explain records
