Cabell Huntington Hospital is seeking a full-time Cancer Registrar Apprentice with ECCC Cancer Registry Department.
The Cancer Registrar Apprentice is responsible for maintaining the cancer database through case finding, abstracting, recording cancer data, and collecting and documenting follow-up information. The Cancer Registrar Apprentice responsibilities include accessioning and reporting cancer data as mandated by the Commission on Cancer, American College of Surgeons (ACoS) program standards, SEER (Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results) guidelines and by West Virginia State Law (through West Virginia Cancer Registry). As a Cancer Registrar Apprentice, he/she must work with the academic leadership in scheduling conferences, gathering all necessary documentation before each conference, be present to document the discussions that occur, complete required cancer conference grid per ACOS standards, and submit documentation for physicians to receive CME credit. Registrars must be diligent in abstracting timeliness and follow up processes as required by the ACOS COC standards. The Registrar must demonstrate a high degree of expertise in ICD-9-CM to perform conversion to ICD-0-3. Apprenticeship will result in training in all modalities of the cancer registry. The apprentice should apply skills toward earning certification within the timeframe specified in the COC standards (three years) The Apprentice will assist Manager and Cancer Registrar with all duties outlined in the job description.
Requirements:Education:
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- RHIT or RHIA required.
- CTR required.
The kind of position-related experience includes:
- Expertise in ICD-9-CM coding required when converting reportable cases to ICD-0-3.
- Knowledgeable in Anatomy and Physiology as well as in Basic Disease Processes.
- Maintains follow up percentages as outlined in the ACoS standards.
- Efficiently manipulates multiple software programs. (Impac, Cerner, Affinity, Aria, Soft Path, Allscripts, SEER Rx, NODA)
- Accurately interpret and maintain Commission on Cancer Program Standards for ACOS/COC survey.
- Assists with the interpretation and maintenance of NAPBC survey requirements.
- Must be knowledgeable in the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries Standards (NAACCR) and the West Virginia Cancer Registry (WVCR) Policy and Procedure Manuals.
- Knowledge of NCDB requirements, edit reports and reporting rules.
- Experience with Microsoft Office.
- Must be detail oriented and have the ability to work independently.
