General Summary and Program Information
The West Virginia Area Health Education Centers (WV AHEC) has five regional Centers with Executive Directors located in offices throughout the state, each with a multi-county service area. WV AHEC is a federally funded initiative sponsoring the statewide Centers with information and resources. Currently all Centers are under contract through the WVU Research Corporation and provide administration and oversight of the Center and its activities.
Cabin Creek Health Systems (CCHS) is the fiscal agency and employer for Central WV Area Health Education Center (CWVAHEC) Region. CCHS operates seven primary care clinics across Kanawha County, WV with school-based care, pharmacy, and dental services being offered at most sites. The CWVAHEC Director will be responsible for advancing the systems' and the program's mission to support educational, continuing education, and healthcare workforce development opportunities within the CWVAHEC's catchment area of Kanawha, Jackson, Roane, and Clay counties.
Program Requirements
Evaluates and manages programs, policies, reporting, finances and personnel activities in compliance with federal and state laws,
Plans and facilitates collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish the objectives outlined in the WV AHEC Comprehensive Work Plan,
And works cooperatively with the WVU Institute for Community and Rural Health for data collection and evaluation to successfully implement the following key AHEC initiatives:
1. Health Professions Training
CCHS serves as a clinical rotation site for health professions students from multiple clinical disciplines across the healthcare system. This position coordinates student rotation placement and orientation as well as acting as a resource for students while they are training within our health system.
2. AHEC Rural Community Health Scholars
AHEC Scholars is a voluntary program where exceptional health professions students gain knowledge in key areas via didactic and experiential education. During interprofessional learning events called Rural Immersions, health professions students are provided perspective about emerging healthcare issues and practices. Each Center Director is responsible for on-going RCH Scholars recruitment as well as the planning, coordination, and logistical oversite of one Rural Immersion each year.
3. Continuing Education
WV AHEC supports continuing education of healthcare professionals in the CWVAHEC region and beyond. These CE opportunities are often sponsored and facilitated by CCHS, but are at times supported financially through CWVAHEC funding. This position seeks opportunities to partner with state, federal, and regional organizations to bring continuing education opportunities to the CWVAHEC.
4. lnterprofessional Training:
lnterprofessional Training (IPT) is a focus of WV AHEC where students and healthcare professionals from a variety of disciplines and experiences share knowledge, skills, and perspectives. Each Center Director is responsible for the planning, coordination, and logistical oversite of several IPT events throughout the year.
5. Pipeline Programs:
WV AHEC pipeline activities engage with high school students in hands-on and virtual experiences where training and careers in health professions are demonstrated and explained. Collaboration with local school personnel is essential to a successful pipeline program that could include school clubs or recruitment at career fairs.
Additional Responsibilities
- Will meet budgeting and invoice expectations of CCHS and WV AHEC.
- Will work collaboratively with CCHS, WV AHEC, and community resources to achieve program goals.
- Will develop and facilitate the CWVAHEC Advisory Committee, maintain associated records, and recruit knowledgeable members as needed.
- Will develop partnerships and relationships with providers and service agencies across the CWVAHEC region.
- Will attend appropriate WV Rural Health, National AHEC Organization, or other conferences as necessary for WV AHEC and CCHS representation.
- Will work with WV AHEC and CCHS Communications and Marketing staff to develop and distribute appropriately branded media content for CWVAHEC activities.
Qualifications, Physical Demands, and Transportation/Travel
–Earneddegree in health education, public health, nursing, or a related field of study required. A Master’s degree is preferred, but not required.
-Five years of successful experience in education, program administration, or program development is essential for success in this role.
- A valid driver’s license and personal transportation is required for frequent local and regional travel.
– Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time and lift up to 25 pounds repeatedly.
