Job Summary
Cabinet Peaks Medical Center is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our Laboratory Department. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for performing venipuncture and related procedures under the philosophy, policies, and procedures established by the hospital and department.
Main Responsibilities:
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on neonates through geriatric populations.
- Proficient in the collection of all types of culture and able to instruct patients on safe and correct collection technique according to department policies and guidelines.
- Accurately order and cancel tests in the Meditech LIS system, ensuring correct patient identification and information when performing computer accessions.
- Verify patient identification prior to collection and label patient specimens correctly.
- Answer telephone calls promptly and courteously, delivering clear and accurate phone messages with primary emphasis on accuracy and superior customer relations and telephone etiquette.
- Demonstrate ability to organize and prioritize tasks, dealing with them promptly, taking responsibility for completing all applicable tasks during work shift without sacrificing quality of work.
- Handle incoming specimens, including those for reference laboratory as well as the general laboratory.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Ability to perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on neonates through geriatric populations.
- Knowledge of collection of all types of cultures and ability to instruct patients on safe and correct collection technique according to department policies and guidelines.
- Possess knowledge of overall operation of laboratory department, including office procedures, accounting/billing, ordering of supplies, and availability, as well as correct filing of all pertinent laboratory forms.
- Ability to understand instructions, reason, and make sound medical judgments.
- Ability to understand meaning of words, terminology, and ideas associated with position.
- Ability to perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately at high school level.
- Ability to coordinate eyes and hands to fingers rapidly and accurately in making precise movements with sufficient speed and accuracy to perform invasive procedures.
- Ability to perceive similarities and differences in color.
- Sufficient hand and finger dexterity to perform assigned tasks.
- Ability to perceive pertinent detail in verbal and/or tabular material.
- Excellent customer relations and communication skills required.
- Ability to assist and respond to trauma events and post-mortem examination.
Education Requirements:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Medical assistant or phlebotomy certification preferred.
- If not nationally certified, must become so within 1 year from date of hire.
Experience:
- One year of experience preferred.
Work Schedule:
Per the needs of the department. PRN (fill-in-as-needed).
