Job Description:
The Buyer/Purchasing Agent will play a critical role in materials planning and procurement. This position requires expertise in MRP, master scheduling, and supplier management. The ideal candidate will leverage lean principles to ensure timely procurement of raw materials while maximizing production efficiency at optimal costs. You will be accountable for key purchasing metrics, including PPV and inventory control, while aiming to enhance annual inventory turns.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Initiate requests for quotes for new and changing business, negotiate pricing, and maintain costs in the system.
- Drive cost reduction initiatives and technological improvements.
- Manage and monitor supplier relationships and performance through scorecards.
- Collaborate with Customers, Engineers, and Production Managers to ensure timely material delivery.
- Maintain effective inventory management and oversee the cycle counting program.
- Develop and implement inventory strategies to improve annual turns.
- Create, approve, and manage purchase orders and expedite change notices.
- Address and manage excess and obsolete materials.
- Regularly report to Senior Management on objectives, accomplishments, and expectations.
- Serve as a backup to the production scheduler as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in procurement and materials management in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in SAP, with 4 years of experience preferred. Lean manufacturing experience is a plus.
- APICS certification is a plus.
- Strong analytical, project management, and quantitative skills.
- Ability to understand integrated supply chain and logistics concepts and coordinate multiple customer requirements.
- Global procurement and LEAN experience preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Work in a manufacturing environment with occasional exposure to noise, heat, cold, fumes, and chemicals.
Personal Protective Equipment/Clothing Required:
- Safety glasses and safety boots/shoes may be required.
