Job Summary:
Prepares and splices fiber optic cables in both indoor and outdoor environments.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Splices fiber optic cables including both loose tube and ribbon optic cables.
- Constructs a proper splice case, including but not limited to grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage, and sealing.
- Prepares and maintains accurate splicing records, schematics, and diagrams.
- Performs work in accordance with industry standards and adheres to safety procedures.
- Maintains control of activities surrounding the assigned work site(s).
- Supports project timelines and provides accurate feedback.
Job Qualifications:
- 2 years of technical education or training required.
- 2 years of field experience as a telecommunications technician required.
- Working knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure required.
- Familiarity with fiber optic cable and splice enclosures required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Travel will be required and may be up to 80%, depending on the business needs.
- Ability to work long hours involving overtime and weekends, as necessary.
- Ability to respond to the needs of a 24/7/365 operation.
- Must be able to work emergency schedules during natural disasters and network outages.

- Ability to drive and back up a truck and trailer proficiently.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces.
- Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather.
- Ability to climb and work at elevations (i.e., from ladders, poles, lift trucks) exceeding 18 feet.
- Able to use a shovel and post hold digger.
- Ability to work at heights up to 50'.
- Must be able to climb poles.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds several times a day.
- Overhead lifting of over 20 pounds.
- Ability to work in confined spaces (i.e., attics, crawl spaces, utility holes).
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision depth perception, and ability to focus.
