QUALIFICATIONS:
Possess a current license to practice professional nursing (Registered Professional Nurse)
Possess a BSN or higher degree
Three (3) years experience as a professional registered nurse
Possess certification as a school nurse from the Vermont Agency of Education.
Current certification in CPR/AED

School Nurse Coordinator for nursing specific guidance
RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Functions
Verify and document that all students comply with Vermont School Immunization Law.
Maintain a cumulative Permanent School Health Record on every matriculated student.
Implement vision, hearing, and other screenings as outlined in the Vermont School Nurse Manual.
Assess students who are referred by staff and/or present to the health office
Obtain health and developmental history
Review of health records
Identify health findings which do not fall within the norm.
Provide nursing interventions for acute and chronic health concerns
Document assessment data and nursing actions in the Electronic Health record
Administer and document medications according to district policy
Collaborate with parent(s) legal guardian(s), teachers, guidance counselor, social worker, school psychologist, administrators, and community resources regarding student health needs/problems to assist the student educationally and enhance his/her well being.
Maintain student and staff privacy/confidentiality as per HIPPA, FERPA, and district policy,
Collect, document and analyze data regarding suspected child abuse and neglect and make formal referrals to appropriate agencies.
Delegate nursing tasks responsibly per district policy to unlicensed and licensed staff staff members as needed.
Be knowledgeable of community health resources and refer students/families to these resources as needed.
Participate as the Health Specialist in referrals and meetings to develop Individualized Education Plan (IEP), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (504), and Response to Intervention (RTI) plans as needed and act as case manager when appropriate.
Develop and implement Individual Healthcare Plans (IHP) and Emergency Care Plans, as needed.
Collect and analyze data to identify trends in illnesses and injuries and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
Participate in reviewing and developing health related district policies and procedures.
Communicate with district and other school nurses to analyze and resolve student health issues.
Communicate with other school personnel as appropriate regarding student health issues.
Prepare statistical reports for the Vermont Department of Health and other agencies as required.
Provide in-service education to teachers and staff according to student health concerns, staff requests, emergency preparedness, and other identified needs.
Collaborate with teachers, students, and family members to present appropriate information to students regarding health issues as needed.
Consult with and/or refer to state health agencies as needed.
Provide input for preparation and implementation of individual school’s Health Services Budget.
Update nursing knowledge and skills through professional development, workshops, courses, and other professional resources.
Identify strengths and weaknesses through self-evaluation.
Promote wellness and disease prevention through public health efforts such as bulletin boards, newsletters, and other opportunities
Working Conditions: Maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions. Repetitive hand motions and prolonged use of computers. Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases. Must be able to lift 30 pounds. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, keyboarding, overhead reaching and pulling.
