What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Communications position at CACHE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT?
The Director of Communications is responsible for all internal and external communications, public relations and press relations, district and school websites, district news and social media, crisis communications, and marketing/brand management. The Director of Communications is part of the district executive leadership team and manages a small team with two direct reports.
Essential Functions
- Acts as district Public Information Officer (e.g. preparing public information statements, responding to media inquiries, etc.) for the purpose of addressing issues, providing appropriate and accurate information, and communicating district/school open/closed status.
- Compiles data from a variety of sources (e.g. community groups, Board, staff/departments, etc.) for the purpose of analyzing issues, developing effective response, and ensuring compliance with district policies and procedures.
- Consults with appropriate departments on internal/external communications issues and the production of publications and presentation materials for the purpose of gathering accurate information and ensuring agency-wide communications are in compliance with stated policies and procedures.
- Facilitates meetings, workshops, trainings, etc. for the purpose of identifying issues, developing recommendations, supporting other staff/departments, and serving as a district representative.
- Interacts with internal/external entities, agencies, community groups (e.g. Board of Education, law enforcement, health department, patrons, etc.) for the purpose of coordinating, conveying and/or gathering information and developing and collaborating joint projects.
- Monitors budget allocations, expenditures, fund balances and related financial activities for the purpose of ensuring allocations are accurate, revenues are recorded, expenses are within budget limits and/or fiscal practices are followed.
- Oversees the district's communications program, planning, and departmental responsibilities (e.g. website/social media posts, marketing materials, newsletters, etc.) for the purpose of establishing department goals relevant to achieving organizational objectives, and ensuring compliance with legal, and financial requirements.
- Participates in meetings and/or networking groups (e.g. professional associations, workshops, committees, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and gathering information regarding a variety of subjects required to carry out assigned administrative responsibilities.
- Performs personnel functions (e.g. interviewing, evaluating, training, supervising, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and achieving objectives within budget.
- Prepares a variety of documents and written or electronic materials (e.g. press releases, announcements, graphic designs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and issues, conveying information, meeting compliance requirements, and/or providing supporting materials.
- Researches a variety of topics (e.g. public policy, website/social media trends, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and established guidelines; securing information for planning; and/or responding to requests.
- Responds to inquiries for the purpose of providing information, assistance, and/or direction regarding the district communications, events, and activities.
- Serves as a liaison between the district and media representatives, community organizations, and the public for the purpose of conveying information, publicizing events, and enhancing the relationship between the district and the community.
Qualifications
- Job-related experience within the communications field or school administrative experience is required.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in a job-related area at a minimum.
- Master's degree and Administrative Credential preferred
