What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Writer / Desktop Publisher position at CACI?
CACI is looking for an experienced Technical Writer / Desktop Publisher. The employee will be working with an experienced and talented CACI Technical Writing team and working in close collaboration with our partner Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNS). The professionalism and quality of the team’s work is essential to the success of PNS in supporting a very critical mission for the US NAVY.
What You’ll Get to Do:
- Use in-house style guide and template to convert highly technical manuals, reports, and related documentation involving specialized engineering language from legacy formats to HTML/XML
- Perform scrupulous comparison of PDF output from MadCap Flare with original source documentation
- Perform review of document layout to within pixel-level alignment
- Interpret and apply revisions from Editorial staff using redlines and comments in Adobe Acrobat Pro
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
A minimum 3 to 5 years of related technical writing or digital publishing experience
Experience working in a publishing environment; knowledge of standard production practices (rev loops, document review, incorporating client feedback)
Experience with a content management system (Madcap Flare, Sitecore, WordPress, etc.)
Ability to attain and maintain a DoD security clearance
Satisfactory completion of an in-house technical test
Good oral and written communication skills
Ability to meet with client in a professional manner
Ability to appreciate and respond to the client’s objectives and needs
Excellent references
Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision
Associates degree Skillset:
Patience and attention to detail
Collaborative mindset and flexibility
Comfort with Microsoft Word, Windows OS, file management, and Adobe Acrobat Pro
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
- Comfort with basic web technologies, including HTML, XML, and CSS
- Experience with Microsoft Teams, Visio, and Excel
- Experience with Madcap Flare (preferred) or other CMS (Sitecore, WordPress, etc.)
- Experience with GIT or other version control system
- Experience copymatching and proofreading
