What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Nurse - SY 25/26 Cactus (1902) position at Cactus Middle School?
The job of School Nurse is done for the purpose/s of overseeing the individual health needs of students; overseeing immunization compliance mandated by state law; implementing health care plans directed by physicians; ensuring district health care practices comply with the laws relating to student health issues; providing appropriate immediate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured students; serving as a health care resource to teachers, staff, and administrators; conducting mandated health screenings and identifying health problems for referral to appropriate parties for proper follow up treatment and working with population of well students to maintain health and wellness.
Essential Functions:
- Administers first aid, medication and specialized medical treatment
- Assesses situations involving students' safety, abuse (physical, sexual, drug) and other health related issues
- Collaborates with parents, students, health care providers, and/or other agencies
- Conducts programs and/or activities, e.g., health screening, etc.
- Develops and maintains health care plans, medical emergency cards, emergency care plans, records, e.g., mandated screening, chronic illness, etc.
- Implements school health care plans and emergency care plans
- Maintains contact with parent/guardian
- Participates in 504 plan accommodations with staff and students when a medical issue is involved
- Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and seminars, including Individual Education Plan for students with health care needs
- Participates in District programs designed for data recording and recording initiatives
- Performs home visits and/or hospital visits
- Prepares a wide variety of written materials, e.g., quantity reports, student activities, correspondence, internal audits, etc.
- Provides staff training on a variety of health related subjects, e.g., CPR, universal precautions, disaster preparedness, child abuse, health education, etc.
- Refers clients to agencies which assist with obtaining glasses, hearing aids and medical needs
- Refers families, students and staff to community agencies that improve quality of life and health, e.g., Kids Care, WIC, etc.
- Refers students requiring further medical attention
- Reports students with contagious diseases as mandated by local public health authorities
- Responds to emergency situations and/or evaluates need to activate local EMS - 911
- Works as part of the crisis management team at individual sites
- Performs other related duties, as assigned
Community College and/or Vocational School degree with study in job related area. Testing as required by State Board of Nursing.
Registered Nurse License/CPR Certificate.
Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
