Job Summary: Adult Residential Substance Abuse Counselor
Responsible for counseling clients and/or families with alcohol and drug dependency
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Perform client assessments/screenings as required
· Develop and implement a plan of treatment and aftercare plans for the client and/or family
· Evaluate client progress and revise treatment plan, as needed
· Provide client and family education about addiction, the recovery phase, and relapse prevention techniques
· Knowledgeable of community resources available for clients and families
· Assume case management responsibilities for assigned clients
· Demonstrate the ability to perform crisis intervention
· Present client cases for discussion with the multidisciplinary team
· Develop, implement, and coordinate educational classes and therapy programs
· Maintain referral source and responds appropriately
· Responsible for client, staff, and self-safety at all times
· Maintain client records
· Documentation meets standards and policies
· Treat clients/families with respect and dignity
· Perform all aspects of client care in an environment that optimizes client safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors
· Communicate with physicians and/or nurses in a clear and concise manner
· Maintain a good working relationship within the department and with other departments
· Function as a mentor for student interns
· Demonstrate the ability to be flexible and organizes; functions well during stressful and/or emergency situation
· Stay current with new techniques, advances through seminars, conferences, continuing educating classes, professional societies, and journals etc.
· Uses two identifiers for each client served to ensure identification
· Perform other duties as assigned
Regulatory Requirements:
· Master’s Degree in a related field and/or an active National Certification in addiction
· Minimum of two years training and/or clinical experience in substance abuse counseling desired
· Within four years will have obtained licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor or Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor or actively pursuing higher education degree
· Valid Driver’s License required
· Personal cell phone will used for two factor authentication
Language Skills:
· Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing
· Additional languages preferred
Skills:
· Basic computer knowledge
· Excellent interpersonal skills
· Knowledge of chemical dependency and the skill to effectively counsel individuals in treatment
· A minimum of two years’ continuous sobriety and active participation in a 12 Step program (if in recovery); ability to communicate with a diverse group of individuals and respond to inquiries an issues with tact and good judgment; writing ability to maintain accurate records; verbal communication skills to make effective presentations and lead groups; ability to interface with persons inside and outside the agency and promote a positive image for CADAS.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.50 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
