Description
We are looking for a self-driven and experienced Senior Engineer/Project Manager (Land Development) who will provide technical, permitting, and project management expertise on a variety of land development projects to include commercial, residential, mixed use, and industrial. Areas of emphasis include site design, roadway design, utility design, grading and erosion control plans, stormwater prevention plans, and water quality BMP design. The senior Engineer/Project Manager will effectively collaborate with a team of multi-disciplined engineers, scientists, project managers, CAD designers, GIS analysts, and other staff to best service our client’s needs.
The successful candidate will have a strong business acumen and embody an ownership mentality with the ability to build and maintain client relationships, prepare proposals, and effectively manage the development, design, permitting and project management of multiple projects simultaneously. They should also be highly motivated, resourceful, and a well-organized cooperative producer and manager who enjoys mentoring new engineers and developing collaborative teams.
Location : Ashland, VA office.
Responsibilities:
Manage and coordinate the development, design and permitting of multiple projects simultaneously.
Evaluate the economic, engineering, or pragmatic feasibility of projects based on site and/or building constraints
(i.e., constructability assessment).
Assess and mitigate project risks in advance of detailed engineering efforts.
Perform and/or check technical calculations and prepare project specifications, including hydrologic and hydraulic
analysis and modeling (stormwater detention and water quality BMP design), site grading and design, erosion and sediment control plans, etc.
Research regulations, codes, zoning ordinances, and other requirements as needed to ensure project compliance.
Prepare and review engineering designs and permit applications to acquire approvals from regulatory bodies.
Maintain complex schedules, develop project timelines, coordinate with subcontractors, and manage people and materials to complete jobs on schedule and within budget guidelines.
Prepare detailed models and technical documents to present project design/feasibility findings to stakeholders.
Prepare reports, client communications and invoices, contract documents, etc. and consult with other internal partners as needed.
Assist the Business Development and Marketing team, including the preparation of detailed technical proposals.
Act as the direct point of contact in communication with clients, government agencies and other stakeholders.
Pro-actively recognize conditions and problems of non-routine nature and develop effective solutions.
Attend client & agency meetings and industry events.
Mentor staff and effectively manage a team.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
Professional Engineering (P.E.) License in Virginia.
8 years of professional engineering and project management experience.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience using the Virginia Stormwater Management Regulations.
Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, HydroCAD (or similar stormwater software).
Excellent communication and public speaking skills: articulate, assertive, and confident.
Strong organizational skills with proven ability to manage multiple, complex tasks.
Must have a strong technical competency and analytical ability; Ability to communicate orally and in writing with
key stakeholders, including local, county and state officials, environmental regulators, to exchange information, clearly explain the project goals, obtain permit approvals, and to coordinate compliance efforts.
Must be able to work independently and collaborate with peers when appropriate.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
Understanding of financial models and budget management.
Reasonably proficient in MS Office 365, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Valid Driver’s license required.
Preferred Requirements:
Master’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
