Cadogan Tate Chicago Limited has an exciting position available for a Lead Driver / Art Handler.
The essential duty of this role is to take a lead role on all aspects of removals, collections, deliveries and installations of personal effects, art and antiques under the management of immediate supervisor. Coordinate installations and supervise crews on site.
We are looking for skilled Movers (Foreman experience preferred) with box truck driving experience, art handling experience is a bonus.
This a full-time position, working Monday through Friday and some weekends. The company provides competitive hourly pay and excellent benefits. The salary depends on applicant's driving and moving experience. The candidate must be able to provide proof of authorization to work in the U.S.
Key Responsibilities
- Collections and deliveries on a daily basis, locally and interstate as needed
- Coordination of installation projects, leading a team / crew
- Proper handling of art objects, fragile and artistic material, antique and fine furniture
- Preparation of condition checks and condition reports as needed
- Pack artworks, antiquities and fine furniture for transportation and storage
- Ensure a high degree of detail and focus on every job
- Training junior drivers and art handlers when required
- Handle and control all paperwork when on site or working in the field, including all condition reporting for goods
- Ensure vehicle used is always safe, clean and prepared for the day or trip as required, verify what goods are needed at the start of every day or trip based on the daily trip sheet or trip manifest
- Ensure all modifications to daily trip manifest are reported and verified by the Dispatch Manager prior to making any modifications
- On occasion, you may be required to start your day or end your day at a location other than Cadogan Tate Chicago Limited listed above, in these instances you are required to complete a manual time sheet and to have this signed by the supervisor or your manager within 24 hours of the start or end of the day
Supervisory Responsibilities
Ensure crews are wearing their uniform at all times while they are on company timeAdhere to authorized break timesYou are responsible to report crew members who are not fulfilling their job role to the Dispatch ManagerTrain new employees as requiredEnsure trucks are kept clean, intact and safe for operation, report any damages to Dispatch Manager, do not let crew leave rubbish in the trucks or destroy the interior of the trucksCheck trucks thoroughly every morning to ensure all material needed for the day is loaded Efficiently manage crews, including the time management of a jobEnsure crews complete time sheetsAlways report to work promptly and collect instructions for the dayBe a proactive leader using your own initiative when requiredGeneral

High school diploma / GED requiredSome years of experience in the art handling industry and in packing and driving on a local and interstate basisSome years of logistical, warehousing and moving experienceAn excellent understanding of inventory processes and the ability to handle art and antiques from collection through to installationThe ability to lead an installation and manage an on-site crewThe ability to manage installations and train junior art handlers accordinglyThe ability to work as part of a team, as well as working independently under instructionStrong leadership skillsExcellent problem-solving skillsSome familiarity with OSHA regulationsExcellent organizational and time management skillsOutstanding communication and multitasking skillsAbility to accurately execute detailed paperwork and condition reportingTeam player, able to work with all levels of staff in a dynamic environmentComfortable in a results-driven workplaceExperience with the use of hand trucks, pallet jacks, J-bars, dollies and other standard logistics equipmentAbility to safely lift 50 pounds and maneuver objects of substantial size and weight on a daily basis without damage to object or person, including the ability to push and pull 150 pounds on a dolly or cartAbility to stand, walk, squat, bend, kneel, crouch, twist and reach overheadBenefits
