Pharmacy Technician
Period of Performance : March 1, 2025, through February 28, 2026, including one base year with four one-year optional periods.
Place of Performance : The Pharmacy Technicians shall work at any VAMHCS location as determined by management and operational needs. Locations include but are not limited to :

Schedule : The Pharmacy Technicians will be required to work a minimum of 40 hours per week per Pharmacy Technician with each shift being a minimum of 8-hours (Sunday through Saturday, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays). Shifts are determined by VA Maryland Health Care System Pharmacy leadership.
Position Qualifications :
Certification : Current, active national certification through either : the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) or the National Health career Association (NHA), Certified Pharmacy Technician (ExCPT).Language Proficiency : Pharmacy technicians appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English.Creditable Experience : To be creditable, the experience must have demonstrated the use of knowledge, skills, and abilities associated outlined below.Practical Experience : The contract pharmacy technicians will work in both the outpatient and inpatient pharmacy settings. It is preferred for each Pharmacy Technician to have at least 2 years of experience in hospital (inpatient) pharmacy.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Pharmacy Technicians assigned to this position must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities :
Ability to solve problems and make recommendations, e.g., troubleshoot operational problems and refer to appropriate action.Ability to troubleshoot automated dispensing equipment (ADE) or technology platforms / databases.Knowledge of, and ability to follow, written instructions for compounding with aseptic technique for hazardous materials such as oncology agents.Knowledge, and ability to perform, compounding with aseptic technique for routine sterile products.Knowledge of policies and procedures for inventory management in specialized areas such as emergency carts.Ability to resolve pharmacy / medication issues with other members of the healthcare team, Veterans and external customers.Ability to dispense medication or sterile products following all regulations, policies and procedures to ensure safe medication distribution.Functional Responsibility :
Under the supervision of a pharmacist, pharmacy technicians perform routine pharmacy functions including receiving prescriptions from patients in writing or electronically from physicians.Pharmacy technicians prepare prescriptions by counting, pouring, weighing, measuring, and mixing the medication if necessary. Pharmacy technicians maintain patient profiles, prepare insurance claim forms, stock, and take inventory of medications. Pharmacy technicians prepare medications for inpatients in various settings, including sterile product preparation.
