Responsible for all mechanical components, assemblies, and modification of the various types of simulator devices. This includes but is not limited to common tasks such as cutting, drilling, fitting, riveting, bending, layout, gluing, and an assortment of assembly fastening techniques.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform receiving inspection for shipping damage and inventory of materials/products received at site.
- Read work orders, follow production, and sample assemblies, diagrams, parts lists or receive verbal instructions regarding duties to be performed.
- Measure parts to determine specified tolerance.
- Ability to read precision measuring equipment.
- Reads and interprets blueprints to fabricate complex assemblies.
- Fabricates parts from raw materials.
- Files and buffs parts to fit.
- Drills, taps, reams, countersinks, and spot face bolt holes in parts.
- Position and aligns parts.
- Identifies and utilizes appropriate hardware as required.
- Bolts, screws, and rivets parts together to close tolerances.
- Disassembles and replaces parts as required.
- Laps and hones internal cylindrical surfaces.
- Tests functional performance of assemblies.
- Cleans and lubricates parts and assemblies.
- Marks identifying information on parts.
- Inventory assign toolbox and sign inventory sheet.
- Perform tool room inventory.
- Perform simulator teardown and packing of simulator components for shipment.
Qualifications And Education Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree.
- 5 years of experience as a flight simulator mechanic.
- Must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations with other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to figure percentages, area, circumference, and volume and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Must have a good knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical hand tools and be able to effectively use them (Hammers, wrenches, screw drivers, pliers, precision measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers and scales, pneumatic and manual drills, rivet guns, fastening tools such as clamps and clecos shop equipment such as drill presses, brakes, and shears etc.).
- Must have a sound understanding of military and commercial workmanship standards.
- Must be willing and able to assume work assignments away from the facility for extended periods of time (40% of the year) and be willing to work rotating shifts.
- Must be able to work from parts lists, assembly drawings, schematics, engineering orders, engineering change orders, engineering logs, CAE workmanship standards and CAE manufacturing procedures / work instructions.
- Must have basic computer skills for time reporting and work order processing.
- Must be able to perform work assignments with minimal supervision.

- Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.
Work Environment
- Able to work in a manufacturing environment that includes hazardous conditions and potential risk to personal safety including chemical, electrical and physical hazards.
- Must be able to work flexible hours and overtime as needed, including occasional weekends.
- Some travel may be required to assist with certain projects.

- The physical or muscular exertion required for prolonged standing, walking, and lifting or moving objects (weighing as much as 50lbs) and the resulting fatigue brought about by these activities.
- Work in sustained sitting, standing, stooping, and squatting positions. Also climbing on ladders and equipment to heights 25 to 30 feet above the floor. Ability to safely move and work on equipment in confined spaces for reasonable periods of time.
- The physical dexterity required in performing tasks that require hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills.
- Have the manual dexterity, knowledge, and experience necessary to work safely and effectively with various hand tools.
