JOB SUMMARY:
The Security department Special Police Officer is charged with creating and maintaining a safe environment for all of Horseshoe Baltimore’s guests and employees. This department is responsible for providing superior service by seeking out opportunities to be of service, by maintaining highly visible patrols to ensure a safe gaming experience, and by assuring quality support to other departments so that they may serve guests more effectively. They are also in charge of maintaining public order, enforcing safety rules, protecting property and assets.
KEY JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Holds a special police commission granted by the Governor.
· Is authorized to exercise arrest powers of a police officer of individuals who trespass or commit offenses on the property described in the commission
· Protect company assets and provide a safe environment for Horseshoe Casino Baltimore employees and guests
· Assists customers with directions and escort customers as required
· Assists law enforcement authorities, including testimony in criminal and administrative proceedings as needed
· Provide security presence for chip fills, jackpot verifications, and other actions related to gaming
· Provide escorts of money and persons in money-handling positions
· Provide first aid when necessary
· Patrol all sections of the property to identify safety hazards and suspicious circumstances, taking appropriate action as required
· Assist with all documentation as it relevant to incidents in accordance with Horseshoe Casino Security policy
· Report and follow lost and found protocol
· Enforce Horseshoe Casino policies and procedures
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
· Must be at minimum 21 years of age and preferably five (3) years of experience in the police or security field in a leadership role.
· High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid gaming license for the position as required by the Maryland State Lottery and Gaming Commission.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Complete a Special Police application with the Maryland State Police
· Pass the required background check
· Obtain a special police commission
· Complete an arrest and control technique class
· Obtain and maintain 1st Aid, CPR and AED certification
· Must successfully complete all the SPO mandatory basic training courses within the probationary period.
· Be able and willing to arrest people as needed
· Be able and willing to testify in court as needed
· Be able and willing to issue Maryland Uniform Citations as needed
· Must possess a valid driver’s license
· Must use de-escalation skills when required.
· Must present a well-groomed appearance
· Must be able to work independently
· Must be able to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time
· Must be able to respond calmly and make rational decisions, when handling customer and employee conflicts
· Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Must possess the ability to interact in a professional manner with the public
· Must possess excellent customer and employee relations skills
- Ability to uphold and demonstrate the highest level of integrity in all situations and recognize standards required by a regulated business
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered if candidate can effectively demonstrate progressively responsible experience in above qualifications.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Must be able to work independently.
- Must be able to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.
- Must be able to respond calmly and make rational decisions, when handling employee conflicts.
- Must be able to maneuver throughout all areas of the property and from floor to floor either by stairways (minimum of 20 steps) or escalator.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 200lbs.; and can push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop and kneel.
- Responds to visual and aural cues.
- Must have the manual dexterity to operate a computer and other necessary office equipment.
Must be able to tolerate areas containing dust, loud noises, and bright lights.
Must be able to work varied shifts, weekends and holidays as needed.
