Cafe Okawari is a fast casual restaurant serving Japanese comfort food and cafe style beverages.
POSITION PROFILE
Under the direction of the owners, the lead cook position is responsible for day to day operations of the business including but not limited to employee morale & retention, food preparation, executing dishes, maintaining profitability, inventory control, troubleshooting, placing food/beverage/dry goods orders, etc. This is a hands on role that will include food prep, cooking, taking orders, etc. This is a full time, hourly plus tips position that will be required to work between 11am-8pm, MONDAY-FRIDAY. Work related duties must be done onsite.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative and Operations:
- Assist with training, coaching, and developing employees and team leaders.
- Multiple kitchen duties including but not limited to prep, cooking, menu development, expediting, taking orders, customer service and managing food delivery apps.
- Assign and delegate tasks to the team and provide follow-up.
- Hold the team accountable for their performance; provide coaching and counseling as needed.
- Ensure the team provides fast, friendly, and accurate service.
- Ensure product quality, restaurant cleanliness, maintenance and security standards are met.
- Staff and schedule appropriately to control labor costs.
- Ensure proper cash handling and deposit procedures are followed.
- Ensure appropriate inventory and ordering systems are in place and carried out properly.
- Work toward budgetary goals set for the department.
Employee Relations:
- Help hire and train all event staff, as needed.
- Plan and execute pre-shift meetings as necessary. Conduct informative, professional line-ups before the start of service communicating changes/updates.
- Communicate effectively when any employee issues arise that you are unable to resolve.
- Uphold grooming standards and constantly check appearance, grooming of all staff present.
- Inform staff of upcoming events in a timely manner.
- Ensure that Cafe Okawari’s standards, policies and procedures are maintained.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Must have and be able to do all of the following:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.
- Basic math and computer skills.
- 3 years cooking/prep experience.
- Must hold valid food handlers certification.
- Ability to work up to 40 hours per week in full-time positions.
- Take direction well; understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Can creatively solve problems and effectively implement solutions.
- Good time management skills; can manage and complete priorities and workflow, be detail-oriented, and work with a sense of urgency.
- Ability to learn and perform in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment and able to handle multiple tasks.
