RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for managing the Landscape Improvement operations of a designated district. Establishes programs and daily operational systems to implement long-term goals established by the Branch Manager. Utilizes computerized estimating program and achieves budgeted sales and estimating goals. Accepts and achieves the prime objective of making a profit on each job and according to specifications. Plans and controls activities toward that objective. Must be able to estimate, sell, coordinate and manage enough work for a minimum of 2 crews.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • In charge of field operations and responsible for supervising the activities of the Superintendent, Foreman and Laborers within an assigned region.
  • Coordinates with Landscape Maintenance Managers and Regional Sales Managers the promotion and solicitation of new work. Sales effort will include soliciting new and potential customers, assisting in sales presentation, preparing estimates, collecting production data, negotiating and renewing contracts.
  • Training is critical to the success and continued growth of the company. It is the role of Project Manager to train and assist in developing the skills of the field personnel. Areas of emphasis include the efficiency of time management in every aspect of personnel processes, area planning and organization, horticultural practices, estimating, safety programs, inventory control, Company policy, equipment maintenance, material usage, and customer relations.
  • Accepts and achieves the prime objective of making profit on each job. Plans and controls all activities toward that objective.
  • Consistently meets or exceeds direct cost budgets through conscientious planning, scheduling and supervision.
  • Requires all persons to follow instructions regarding work sequence, priority, quality and budget, observes and prevents deficient work, waste of materials and abuse of company property.
  • Knows production capabilities of labor and equipment and uses this knowledge, to the extent possible to plan for staffing, materials and equipment ONE WEEK IN ADVANCE - DAY BY DAY.
  • Knows general price range of common materials, seeks local sources which provide better price or service than budgeted in the bid.
  • Knows fundamentals of irrigation design and layout, understands the diagrammatic nature of drawings. Uses this knowledge to spot errors in specifications or details prior to ordering material or beginning installation.
  • Will be provided through the course of work, confidential and proprietary information. In order to ensure the protection of this information, will be required to agree and sign a nondisclosure, noncompetition agreement.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION'S ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Ability to lift & carry, push & pull up to 50 pounds of landscape material and equipment daily.
  • Ability to lift and carry on back a 30 pound blower occasionally.
  • Ability to start and use all power equipment without aid from others.
  • Ability to walk, stand, squat and kneel repetitively on a daily basis.
  • Makes frequent repetitive movements with the left and right hand, wrist, ankle and knee.
  • Ability to twist, turn and bend the truck of the body frequently.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plans with Branch Manager, Account Manager and Regional Sales Manager the goals and objectives for the upcoming year. Determine personnel and equipment needs for projected growth and expansion.
  • Performs similar job related duties as required.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Possess and utilize good interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with customers, employees and manager.
  • Must be able to communicate in English verbally and in writing with above average clarity.
  • Must possess a valid California driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the Company's insurance carrier.
  • Ability to stand or sit using office equipment, such as a computer terminal, copier, fax machine, and multi-extension telephone occasionally.
  • Vision capabilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus for close vision work both inside (artificial light) and outside (natural light).

WORKING CONDITIONS WHILE PERFORMING THIS POSITION'S ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Outdoor physical labor in temperatures ranging from cold 20° to heat of 100° ; possible light rain.
  • Limited weekly work within an office environment.
  • Exposure to dust, pollen, chemicals, noise and pollutants related to the landscape industry (fertilizer, pesticide, etc.).
  • Machinery/equipment noise, traffic and hazards related to the landscape industry in a busy commercial environment.
