Cahuilla Public Works Department is seeking a hardworking, reliable, and committed individual who is collaborative, and dedicated to a career. Public Works maintains and enhances the roads, facilities, tribal member work orders, parks, and tribal utilities.
If you like working with a dedicated team and a variety workload, then this is the place for you. Depending on the tasks to be filled, you may operate, backhoes, bulldozers, skip loaders, vibrating compactors, water trucks, semi-tractor or help with maintenance duties like landscaping, irrigation, fencing and gates, electrical, general construction and more.
A typical week includes cleaning and maintenance on the equipment and vehicles, completing Tribal Member work orders which vary from grading, trenching, to repairing broken water lines. Additionally, we help set up and work Tribal events which includes setting up big 20x40 tents tables, chairs, trash cans, and other small items. Outside maintenance, and work orders, we have operations where we grade the roads and driveways, clean out culverts, patch asphalt as needed and clear shoulders.
A good Heavy Equipment Operator is able to concentrate and remain aware of their surroundings in the face of distractions. Being able to think quickly and work under pressure are important for avoiding accidents and meeting strict deadlines. In addition, a Heavy Equipment Operator should be flexible and adaptable, as conditions at the jobsite and even the tasks scheduled for the day can change with little or no notice
A good Laborer is physically fit. This is important as Laborers need to be able to lift and carry building materials and use heavy tools and equipment to dig or fill in holes. They also need to have proficient knowledge in mathematics to make measurements and complete other precision tasks. Further, a good Laborer enjoys working as part of a team which enables them to get along with their coworkers and helps them to complete tasks ahead of deadlines.
A good Laborer also has a commitment to workplace safety. This quality ensures that they adhere to construction safety standards, wear the correct safety equipment and use caution when operating heavy machinery
