What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Summer Camp Instructor position at Cain Center for the Arts?
Under general supervision, plan, organize, and present fiber arts instruction which helps participants learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to a fun, artistic and creative environment.
This is a part time temporary contract position, and incumbents are limited to working a maximum of 20 hours for one week.
Schedule is non- negotiable.
July 8th – July 12th
9am- 1pm.
Class age range: 8-11
Class capacity: 12 students
Examples of Important & Essential Duties (included but not limited to)
- Prepare class ideas, develop lesson plans, and establish activities for a variety of fiber arts programs such as sewing, quilting, pattern-drafting, weaving, felting, crochet, knitting, macrame, fiber dyeing, yarn making, etc.
- Submit inventory needs for the camp.
- Instruct participants in group settings of up to 12 participants for youth camps.
- Provide appropriate instruction and activities for participants to meet objectives and enjoy the creative process.
- Lead classes through engaging teaching techniques that demonstrate clarity and creativity with encouragement for participants to reach their
- Ensure that all spaces and classes are safe, welcoming, and inclusive to all participants.
- Performs other related work as required.
Essential Job Functions
- Must be able to manage art supplies, equipment, tools and classroom
- Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define
- Requires the ability to conceptualize and create art form(s) and encourage creative flow while applying artistic principles.
- Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to instruct a wide variety of fiber/textile/fashion techniques including but not limited to sewing, quilting, pattern-drafting, weaving, basketry, felting, crochet, knitting, macrame, fiber dyeing, yarn making, etc.
- Experience developing curriculum for fiber arts classes and workshops for all ages as well as youth camps.
- Experience teaching fiber arts classes and workshops for all ages as well as youth camps.
