Job Description
Cake Mortgage is actively seeking a skilled and driven mortgage underwriting professional to lead and support our underwriting team. The Underwriting Manager must have an in-depth knowledge of all loan programs including FNMA/FHLMC, FHA, NON-QM, and VA. This individual will collaborate with senior leaders to assist in supporting the demands of a growing underwriting team. In addition, this candidate will be responsible for managing underwriting professionals, second level loan reviews, supporting underwriting functions, as well as developing and coaching employees.
- Manage a team of approximately 10-15 underwriters
- Ensures underwriters are verifying all documentation regarding income, asset, credit, appraisal, and title information
- Ensure the timely execution of tasks within the Team
- Pipeline management to analyze and optimize workflow, escalation and declination reviews
- Review loan submissions to detect and report any form of fraud, inconsistency, misrepresentations, etc.
- Responsible for counseling, coaching and the supervision for all underwriters
- Manage government and conventional underwriters to ensure mortgage loans are underwritten in compliance with Cake Mortgage underwriting, state and federal reporting guidelines
- Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of new hires
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Min 3-5 years of management experience in mortgage underwriting
- Solid knowledge of mortgage underwriting and of basic automated underwriting systems
- Demonstrated computer skills, including proficiency with basic automated underwriting systems
- Knowledge of mortgage laws and regulations required, including Home Mortgage Disclosure Act
- Knowledge of state and federal agency mortgage loan guidelines and regulations
- Organized and detail oriented
- Ability to effectively manage a team
- Ability to effectively prioritize workload and meet deadlines
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
