Cal Coast Adventures is looking for a Bike Guide that can also help with bike rentals and bike deliveries. We also have a set up at West Beach where we operate kayak tours and rent out SUPs and Kayak gear. This role would entail venturing into both worlds to give clients the opportunity to explore land and sea while in Santa Barbara.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead Guided Tours: Safely and confidently lead guests on bike and kayak tours, providing fun and informative commentary on local history, wildlife, and landmarks.
- Deliver Excellent Customer Service: Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for guests of all backgrounds, skill levels, and ages.
- Engage and Encourage Guests: Support guests throughout the experience—whether it’s calming nerves, helping with technique, or offering high-energy motivation.
- Ensure Safety at All Times: Conduct pre-tour safety briefings, properly fit gear, and monitor participants to ensure safe operation of bikes and kayaks.
- Maintain Equipment: Assist in general upkeep/cleaning of bikes and kayaks. Responsible for test riding/inspecting equipment before and after tours/rentals.
- Adapt to the Day’s Needs: Handle last-minute changes, weather challenges, or guest needs with a flexible and solution-focused attitude.
- Communicate Professionally: Represent the company with professionalism and positivity in all interactions—before, during, and after the tour.
- Must be able to lift 70 lbs; ebikes are heavy.
Job Requirements
- Energetic & Outgoing Personality: Must love working with people and have a naturally upbeat, can-do attitude.
- Strong Communication Skills: Ability to clearly explain routes, instructions, and facts in an engaging and friendly way.
- Physically Fit & Outdoorsy: Comfortable biking or paddling for several hours in varying conditions; able to lift and move gear. Ability to lead specialty tours like road bike and mountain bike tours is a plus, but not required.
- Customer Service Focus: Prior experience in hospitality, tourism, or service industry is a strong plus.
- Flexible Schedule: Willing to work weekends, holidays, and varying hours depending on bookings and weather.
- Team Player: Willing to jump in where needed, support coworkers, and take initiative.
- CPR/First Aid Certified (or willingness to obtain).
- Valid Driver’s License: Clean driving record preferred; experience transporting gear is a plus.
- Knowledge of Local Area is helpful, but not required—training provided.
- Punctual and Reliable: Shows up on time, prepared, and ready to deliver a great guest experience every day.
Pay is $18/hour. Gratuity on tours is common so tips are part of the job in addition to your hourly pay. Tips are often dependent on how well you lead your tours and the customer service you give during rentals. This is a part-time or full-time opportunity. We will be hiring through May for seasonal a seasonal position running June through September. Fall and Winter work is dependent on summer season performance and availability.
