Job Description Summary
The Marketing and Communications Coordinator’s primary responsibility is to develop and manage the marketing and communications strategies to advance Cal Poly Partners client’s objectives. These strategies include developing press releases, newsletters, podcasts, social media content, and relevant collateral materials. This savvy marketer is responsible for developing and executing marketing communication campaigns and coordinating design, art direction, video production, illustration, web design and photo selection. Duties of the Marketing and Communications Coordinator include directing, managing, and evaluating student assistants and interns focused on the following roles: public relations, communications, social media, videography, graphic design, web development and marketing analytics.
Minimum Qualifications
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Business, Marketing, Liberal Arts or related field
- Minimum of three years of related experience and/or relevant training
- Exceptional organizational and computer skills
- Very detailed-oriented
- Highly motivated, flexible and capable of multi-tasking
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and to work with tight deadlines
- Experience working with the press
- Experience with various e-mail marketing and press management software
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationship with others
- Demonstrated ability to self-direct, as well as coordinate work team
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship
- Possession of a valid California Driver License and satisfactory driving record
- Ability to work evening and weekend hours in support of CCI events and programs
- A background check is required for all regular benefited positions
- The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment

Typical Essential Functions
Communications, Public Relations, Marketing & Media Relations
- Create and execute communications plans
- Develop and execute public relations program
- Identify and propose internal stories to help promote awareness of programs to the media
- Develop and launch seasonal campus events like Move In, WOW, Open House, SLO Days etc.
- Write copy for newsletters, press releases, events and programs for use on-line and in print and website content
- Develop, design and maintain website content with the assistant of students, interns and staff
- Manage the development and distribution of print and electronic collateral
- Coordinate content, photo and video production in support of programs and events
- Build, maintain and manage relationships with key media and partner organizations for information sharing and co-marketing
- Coordinate with University Communication and Marketing officers to ensure coordinated promotion, appropriate use of brands and facilitate information sharing
- Manage day to day marketing and communications activities including staff and vendor resourcing, scheduling projects, client relations and meeting deadlines
- Think creatively to develop, design and or create new applications, ideas, relationships, systems or products, and promotions
- Analyze, monitor, and evaluate marketing efforts for effectiveness
- Monitor schedules, production and distribution arrangements and other details to ensure timely completion and quality control of marketing activities and publications
- Communicate with stakeholders about marketing initiatives and project metrics, as well as brainstorm fresh strategies
- Other duties as assigned
- Proofread all materials produced for accuracy, grammar and spelling
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Direct student staff in the creative execution of marketing and communication programs
