ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
SUMMARY: We are currently searching for one Part-Time Graduate Student Assistant to work in the ARI Grant “Multisensors and multiplatform assessment of specialty crops health and yield during drought and drought-mitigation management”, under the supervision of Dr. Gabriel Granco, Principal Investigator.
ABOUT US: As the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, the Foundation offers valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 Cal Poly Pomona students each year. The Foundation offers positions in various fields; whether it is in the area of technology, science, retail, culinary arts, hospitality1500 management, leadership or research grants, these student employees participate in Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing philosophy and acquire practical skills in their designated field of study.
The Foundation also contributes operating support to nearly 1,100 Foundation and scholarship programs every year, including Bronco Athletics and the Norman J. Priest Scholarship. In addition, the Foundation administers grants and contracts, contributes to campus security, and supports several university publications. The Foundation contributes over $1 million annually to Cal Poly Pomona.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
The part-time graduate student assistant will: attend research meetings, perform data collection including collecting data at Spadra Farms and Huntley Vineyards; data collection material preparation; sorting, filing, and organizing all research materials and data; data entry; data coding; spatial and tabular data consolidation; develop machine-learning algorithm and data processing pipeline; data analysis; report preparation.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· Must be a Cal Poly Student pursuing a master's degree in Computer Science or closely related field.
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Geography, Agricultural Science, or a closely related field.
· Experience in data analysis and visualization tools.
· Demonstrated understanding of machine learning, deep learning concepts and algorithms.
· Exceptional attention to detail with the capability to work autonomously.
· Outstanding communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred
· Previous research experience in machine learning methods for crop suitability.
· A good grasp of agricultural concepts and terminology.
· Proficiency in programming languages, particularly Python, and familiarity with key machine learning libraries (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.).
· Experience with GIS, remote sensing, and geospatial data analysis.
· Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced research settings.
