ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
SUMMARY: The Program Advisor is responsible for assisting with the implementation of program activities and the documentation of services provided to students. Program Advisors recruit student participants and is the main contact at assigned high schools and its administrative representatives.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
- Develops and implements Educational Action Plans and Needs Assessments for participants based on student records and transcripts and personal interviews.
- Meets with participants bi-monthly regarding participation and attendance, academic progress, college and major advising and orientation to the program (program policies and expectations).
- Documents all student’s contacts, student services provided and collects information electronically when necessary.
- Prepares and tracks program forms such as Program Application, Educational Action Plan, Participant Sign-In sheets, and Program Calendar on a bi-monthly basis.
- Determines UBMS eligibility for students by reviewing official records.
- Implements, supervises, and facilitates after-school tutoring program and Saturday Academy program.
- Trains other UB staff to administer and interpret pre/post tests.
- Develops and implement tutor training programs for Tutor Development meetings.
- Develops Summer Residential Programs Activities and implements them including caseload advising, large group activities and culminating event, and other assigned summer charges.
- Conducts participant and family workshops in college admissions and financial literacy.
- Refers participants to appropriate district or county agencies as needed.
- Provides participant supervision during summer residential program, and participant supervision during summer program travel.
- Serves as a liaison between UBMS program and other campus support offices and target school administrators, i.e. EOP, McNair Scholars Program, Principals, and Counselors.
- Attends Pre-College Programs staff meetings and retreats.
- Maintains all records required by the Department of Education and by university and Foundation in accordance with relevant policies and regulation including tracking of graduated participants.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises tutors/residential counselors and up to ten supplemental instructors/teachers. Chaperone and supervise all UB students during program activities or events. Complete annual reviews, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; and disciplining employees when appropriate. Address complaints and resolve problems per Foundation and university policies and protocol.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Para-professional level of knowledge is needed equivalent to that which would be acquired are completing a 4- year college program (BS/BA Degree) in a Science (including some social sciences), Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) related field.
- An advanced degree in counseling, social science, public administration, higher education, or related field and 2 years' experience in pre-college or educational programs may be substituted for a STEM degree. Experience in a pre-college or educational program preferred.
- Strong communication skills
- Proven consistency in employment attendance and performance in previous professional experience.
- Proficient in MS Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.
