ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
SUMMARY: The CPP Digital Humanities Consortium (DHC) seeks two Student Fellows who have completed Digital Humanities coursework or club work here at Cal Poly Pomona who are patient, organized, and effective communicators who can work with faculty to support student research and learning.
The DHC@CPP is establishing a hub for aligning efforts and resources. The DHC also creates unique programming: hosting experts and pedagogical events, showcasing student-produced content, and providing a platform for student and faculty development in DH. We understand Digital Humanities to be an interdisciplinary field that treats technology as simultaneously a tool for and subject of humanistic inquiry. DH practices range from GIS to digitization; computational methodologies; and studying the impact of technology on humanity, from artificial intelligence, algorithmic biases, media analysis, to (mis)information. DH prioritizes public engagement and employs novel avenues for communicating scholarship, including websites, podcasts, social networks, and video-sharing.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
- Assist in coordinating programming from pitch to implementation. You will be a member of our Steering Committee to help us address what programming and services would especially benefit our DH community at CPP.
- Plan workshops, visit classrooms to discuss DH skills and/or experiences.
- Mentor Student Experts (student workers who can help provide office hours and do classroom visits).
- Marketing, outreach.
DESIRED SKILLS:
- May include video and audio recording, content creation, editing and post-production especially in Audacity, Camtasia, Capcut, and/or Adobe products.
- May include Story Maps ArcGIS, GIS, Google Earth/Google Maps.
- May include background with HTML, editing CPP websites (with Cascade), or other programming or graphic design experiences.
Expected workload to be approximately 4 hours per week ($25/hour) for 15 weeks.

- a current resume, highlighting in bold font experiences related to Digital Humanities, past work related to creating or leading systems (organizations, programs, event planning, websites)
- a 500-800-word essay clarifying background in DH and the events or projects you’re interested in working on for the DHC.
- Applicants should also arrange for a letter of recommendation of approximately 500 words from a university faculty member familiar with applicant's background, skills, and potential, to be e-mailed to the DHC (dhc@cpp.edu).
ABOUT US: As the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, the Foundation offers valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 Cal Poly Pomona students each year. The Foundation offers positions in various fields; whether it is in the area of technology, science, retail, culinary arts, hospitality1500 management, leadership or research grants, these student employees participate in Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing philosophy and acquire practical skills in their designated field of study.
