ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
SUMMARY: Under the general supervision, the Student Assistant is responsible for assisting various banquet and event tasks. This position is designed to provide opportunities to students to hone customer service skills, team development, and foster professional growth.
This position could be just the place to gain hands-on hospitality experience and earn hours toward you HRT 341 requirement! As part of the Banquets and Events team with Foundation Hospitality Services you’ll work closely with our Hospitality Professionals executing amazing events right here on the Cal Poly Pomona campus! ABOUT US: As the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, the Foundation offers valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 Cal Poly Pomona students each year. The Foundation offers positions in various fields; whether it is in the area of technology, science, retail, culinary arts, hospitality1500 management, leadership or research grants, these student employees participate in Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing philosophy and acquire practical skills in their designated field of study.
The Foundation also contributes operating support to nearly 1,100 Foundation and scholarship programs every year, including Bronco Athletics and the Norman J. Priest Scholarship. In addition, the Foundation administers grants and contracts, contributes to campus security, and supports several university publications. The Foundation contributes over $1 million annually to Cal Poly Pomona.

- Provide a good balance of technical and people skills with the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
- Prepare documents/materials as necessary.
- Possess the ability to deliver a high level of interactive customer service, handle confidential materials appropriately, prioritize effectively, and manage multiple projects simultaneously with a high level of accuracy.
- Assist individuals via phone, email or in person.
- Assist with special projects.
- Must be able to communicate regularly with direct supervisor all work status updates as well as task completions.
- The student assistant must possess the ability to work well with staff at all levels within a diverse, multi-cultural, collaborative environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Food Handler’s card acceptable by the State of California
- Demonstrated reliability and strong work ethic
- Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures to variety of situations.
- Ability to be resourceful and to take initiative.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a multi-ethnic environment.
- Flexibility to adjust to changing schedules; open to new ideas and adaptable to changing technology.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Servsafe Managers or equivalent certification
- Valid CA driver’s license and insurance
- Servsafe Alcohol or equivalent certification
