ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
SUMMARY: Currently searching for one Undergraduate Student Research Assistant to work on the NASA SCALES Grant, under the supervision of Dr. Phyllis Nelson, Principal Investigator.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
You will be joining a small team that is developing a software-hardware system to add machine learning and AI capabilities to NASA-JPL’s F’ flight software in collaboration with the JPL F’ team. This position may offer an opportunity to transition to an internship at JPL during a portion of the grant. The final product, which will be open-source, will provide the small satellite community with tools for adding ML and AI processing of sensor data on orbit. Tasks involve implementing F’ on various computational platforms, developing the hardware and software architectures to enable the project, and implementing and testing
the integration of ML and AI applications in the new environment. These positions are eligible to work up to 40 hours per week in summer and convert to a maximum of 20 hours per week during the academic year. SCALES funding will continue for approximately 1.25 years.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a Cal Poly Pomona Student pursuing an undergraduate degree in engineering, science, or a
- related field with experience in microcomputer programming in non-windows operating systems
- Excellent English verbal communication and writing skills
- The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Responsible and dependable
- Ability to work well with a variety of people including CPP students, faculty, staff, and JPL personnel
- Motivated, innovative, and shows initiative
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with some or all of the following: developing applications in linux, programming in python or C , real-time operating systems, machine learning/AI methods, NVIDIA software, and electronic design.
