ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
SUMMARY: The success coach will assist in the coordination of first-year programing and coaching/advising students within the unit. The success coach is responsible for creating, implementing, and overseeing coaching services to develop a holistic student experience and foster student success for students within Academic Support Learning Services programs and initiatives.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
Provide Professional Coaching and Advising to Students (60%)
- Apply student development theory and coaching principles when working with students and student leaders.
- Provide coaching and advising to identified student groups year-round.
- Meet with students regarding emotional, behavioral, and/or academic concerns by coordinating initial meetings with students and utilize interpersonal, fact gathering, and analytical skills to determine the severity of the situation and respond accordingly.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students utilizing skills to encourage growth and learning.
- Maintain working knowledge of campus resources and support services to facilitate student hand-off to continue intervention and support plan for students.
- Utilize various platforms to schedule, track and report on student coaching campaigns and individual sessions.
- Utilize current platform to monitor students' academic progress and provide interventions to students that are at-risk.
- Conduct regular coaching campaigns with students to understand student needs and support development of academic support and intervention as needed.
- Collect data and outcomes related to coaching to facilitate evaluation and reporting of coaching initiatives.
Assist in Program Development and Implementation (25%)
- Support Program Leads with daily operations of summer transition programs (e.g., student leader schedules, student attendance at workshops and activities, student participation, etc.) and be able to anticipate needs.
- Help to monitor and provide oversight to the daily program schedule and provide support and troubleshooting when needed.
- Observe students’ responses to programming and take note for possible improvements during the program.
- Document student conduct issues and report them to Program Leads as soon as possible.
- Participate in meetings with other OSS staff for review of student issues to provide input and determine courses of action.
Provide Leadership and Direction to Student Leaders (10%)
- Support coordinator with training, leading, and providing input for evaluation of all student leaders.
- Delegate tasks to student leaders and provide them with space to plan, organize, problem solve, and implement programs.
Assist with Various Administrative and Reporting Operations (5%)
- Provide support to department leadership, and other OSS staff during program activities.
- Provide administrative support related to programmatic needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Two years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience, which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups.
- Experience in the direction or coordination of group activities working collaboratively with a diverse group of students and staff.
- Ability to lead a team – develop and implement training, organize schedules, provide work direction, maintain open and supportive communication, provide leadership, keep team accountable.
- Ability to understand and explain university policies and procedures.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse constituencies and department staff.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.
- Experience with student affairs programming, basic experience with assessment activities, and understanding of student development theory.
- Experience working with under-represented, first generation, and transfer students.
- Demonstrates compassion for student needs as well as to faculty and the surrounding community, demonstrates patience, objectivity, responsiveness, and persuasiveness, independent decision-making skills are desired.
- The candidate communicates clearly through a variety of modes that includes: verbal, written and presentational, demonstrates effective listening skills.
- Ability to effectively interact with students from varied cultures and backgrounds.
This is a temporary position and will end 1 year from start date.
