Position Title: Data / Business Analyst

Position Purpose:
CalTex is looking for a proficient and self-motivated Data / business analyst that will take Business Intelligence’s (BI) data storytelling and analytics to the next level. This role is part of a team of data and business analysts, ML & AI statisticians, and SQL / Python developers that are dedicated to delivering business value through data-driven stories and recommendations, business insights, automated analytics, and project management. A strong candidate for this position will be able to leverage big picture thinking when analyzing and visualizing data to craft compelling stories that will guide functional leaders to act upon the opportunities within their department and overall industry landscape. A typical day in this role could range vastly from analyzing and performing root-cause analysis of recent spikes and trends within our operational data to debugging data warehouse bugs to building out cloud-based reports and dashboards to bring additional insights to the business. This role will also take part in gathering business requirements from functional leadership and transform them into projects that create robust data pipelines and dashboards that promote action-oriented business decisions and lead such initiatives.

Technical Skills:
- Ability to craft compelling data stories and develop best-in-class dashboards to guide functional leaders into what the business data says and what should be done.
- Perform root-cause data analysis with minimal direction and present findings to leadership in a manner that is concise, direct, and action-oriented.
- Query and aggregate large volumes of data into robust data tables from which you will use to craft your data stories.
- Visualize insights using a combination of local and cloud-based data visualization software to best meet the needs of internal or external stakeholders.
- Develop and uncover business insights by piecing together data from a variety of data sources (operations, sales, finance and industry data) and build presentations and present findings in a compelling way.
- Ability to research, analyze, validate data and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner and provide recommendations for resolution.
- Translate complex technical and functional requirements into detailed workflows and documentation. Build project plans based upon requirements.
- Maintain high levels of accuracy while contributing to a continuously changing environment.
- Leverage a variety of database tools and languages (SQL and Python etc.) for accessing, querying, gathering and storing tables for analysis
- Experience in working with MS SQL Server, MS Azure, SSRS, SSIS, and T-SQL for data gathering.
Nature of Supervision:
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business / Computer Science / Software Engineering / Data Science / Statistics / Marketing Analytics / Supply-Chain Analytics or related field. Master’s degree is preferred.
- 2-5 years of experience in performing data analysis and storytelling, solving complex business problems and leading projects.
- Preferred: Expert experience in data storytelling with the ability to lead initiatives from the story’s recommendations.
- Preferred: Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and implement analytical solutions to complex business problems.
In addition, a qualified applicant will have:
- Advanced skills in data analysis, reporting, and visualization tools
- Advanced databased querying skills (writing complex SQL. Using Python & R is a plus)
- Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP’s, IF Statements, conditional formatting, charts)
- Advanced PowerPoint skills
- Experience in statistical and quantitative methods
- Excellent technical skills to process large quantities of data in an error-free manner
- Detail oriented and highly organized.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- CRM experience preferred
- Actuarial experience preferred
Work Environment:
Most job responsibilities are performed while seated indoors with little exposure to hazards. Travel may be required for one to two weeks a year. Some flex hours may be required (must be able to work nights and weekends on a non-routine basis).

Interaction will occur with various departments, employees and all levels of management, including those on the Executive Team, customers, and vendors in the performance of the job duties as they relate to the Data / Business Analyst.
