Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the field of mass communications/video production. Creates a safe and orderly learning environment to develop knowledge, skills, and talents of students, utilizing a variety of instructional techniques appropriate to students’ interest and abilities. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree
Valid Texas career and technical education certificate with required license, endorsements, and training for subject and level assigned. Demonstrated competency in the career and technical education subject area assigned.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of career and technical education subject assigned
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Ability to oversee student field experiences in career area assigned
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience with Adobe editing software preferred
Experience:
Preferred three years of wage-earning experience in the area of certification
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies
- Develop and clear and concise lesson plans that organize time to provide a balanced program of preparation, instruction, and on-air time. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Responsible for teaching the theoretical and practical concepts, strategies, and techniques associated with the fields of Audio, Video, Technology and Film within the CTE framework.
- Design instructional opportunities for students to develop an understanding of the fundamental principles in the fields of mass communications, mass media, production, programming and editing and employability skill development.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
Student Growth and Development
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing. Including the administration of state approved industry certification(s) to ensure comprehension of content.
- Instruct students in all phases of video production to include scripting, recording, editing, audio, studio lighting, direction in accordance with the TEKS.
- Make industry connections for the purpose of facilitating real world experiences for students such as guest speakers, job shadows, service learning, and work-based learning.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Includes coverage of school events outside of the standard school day.
- Present a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.
Classroom Management and Organization
- Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Instruct students the proper operation, care, and use of video production equipment.
- Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials including video production equipment. Organizes the storage of and controlled us of materials and equipment to prevent lose, abuse, or injury.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
Communication
- Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
- Work collaboratively with middle and high school staff members to vertically align curriculum and best practices where applicable.
Professional Growth and Development
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Other
- Comply with federal, state, and local regulations related to the occupational area assigned.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Direct the work of assigned instructional aide(s).
Supervise, monitor, and assist student in various after hour productions when applicable.
