The Calaveras County Veterans Service Office seeks an energetic, flexible, outgoing, and people-oriented individual to act as the Veterans Outreach Coordinator and assist staff in helping veterans connect with the benefits they earned while serving in our nation's armed forces. The ideal candidate will be open to working, often at county and community events outside the office and, sometimes, outside the regular set working hours. They will also meet veterans in the community, office, or home. Status as a US Military Veteran preferred, but not required.
- Assists in the coordination and development of support services to targeted populations as specified by grant/allocation funding;
- Serves as a peer representative to program activities/meetings;
- Participates in training activities as directed;
- Establishes and maintains positive and effective working relationships with internal staff and external resources;
- Assists with administrative/clerical tasks as assigned;
- Utilizes skills in engaging and working with others from diverse ethnic and cultural groups;
- Provides direct assistance to targeted populations as specified by grant funding sources;
- Provides empathetic peer support; link targeted population to appropriate resources, advocating for them when necessary;
- Participates in production and/or distribution of support and/or educational materials (e.g., newsletters).
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
Mental health issues within the county veteran population groups; familiarity with community resources and service agencies, including both private and other public agencies, social and economic problems which call for the use of public and private county services.
Ability to:
Plan, organize, coordinate, and manage tasks as assigned; communicate orally and in writing on a variety of issues; develop and maintain harmonious relationships with employees, public officials, community groups, other agencies and the general public.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Previous experience as a consumer or family member of mental health, related public health services and/or veteran services preferred.Possession of an appropriate California driver’s license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
Salary : $42,848 - $52,686
