Summary

This is the first of two levels in the Traffic Control series.

Incumbents install, and maintain traffic control devices. Responsibilities may include installing, repairing and replacing traffic signs; maintaining and installing pavement markings; programming, and repairing or replacing school zone flasher beacons; installing and monitoring traffic counters; collecting and analyzing traffic data; recommending the installation or modification of traffic control devices; and maintaining records of work activities.

  • Installs, maintains, repairs, constructs, tests, programs, and sets a variety of traffic signal and control equipment which may include pavement markings, school zone flashers, traffic counters, and / or related traffic control devices.
  • Collects and analyzes traffic data; makes recommendations based on findings.
  • Prepares, processes, and maintains various forms, work orders, operational records, traffic data, and / or other related documents and information.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not require supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), and one year related experience and / or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Driver's License as per State law or requirement.
  • The ability to obtain the following certifications :

  • International Municipal Signal Association Level I Signs and Markings Certification within two years from position hire date.
  • International Municipal Signal Association Level II Signs and Markings Certification within two years after receiving Level I certification and / or being hired into the position.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • UNIFORM

    An employee in this position will be supplied with a uniform, provided by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury. The employee is responsible for abiding by the Police Jury's Uniform Agreement.
