This is the first of three levels in the Inspection – Code Enforcement Series. 
 
Highly responsible professional work in administering the Calcasieu Parish Code of Ordinances falling within the operations of the Division of Planning and Development. (The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.  The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.  Other duties may be assigned.)
  • Responsible for the enforcement of various ordinances and planning programs assigned under the Division of Planning and Development.
  • Interpret maps and legal descriptions.
  • Perform field inspections to determine code compliance.
  • Handle calls and complaints regarding violations and inspections.
  • Research records within the Tax Assessors and Clerk of Court's offices.
  • Administer Parish programs through community education and awareness, as well as enforcement of appropriate program-related ordinances.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and/or yearly reports and maintain reasonable files.
  • Perform related work as assigned or required. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not require supervisory responsibilities.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or Equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
Valid Driver's License as per State law or requirement.

  • Preparing and maintaining a variety of records, logs, and/or other related documents;

  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold and extreme heat. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

UNIFORM
An employee in this position will be supplied with a uniform, provided by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury.  The employee is responsible for abiding by the Police Jury's Uniform Agreement.
