Job Overview
Caldera Lab is searching for a Director of Finance who will oversee all finance and accounting functions for our rapidly growing company. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Director of Finance will plan, administer, and direct all activities related to finance and accounting, ensuring financial accountability and strategic financial planning.
You will work at home, but are ideally based in Austin, TX to attend occasional in-person meetings and brainstorming sessions. Exceptional remote candidates will be considered.
Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting: Lead the weekly and monthly financial reporting process, including projections, and month-end close.
- Financial Modeling: Ability to create sophisticated forward looking financial models for Exec Team and M&A
- Budget Management: Track annual budget performance and work with the operations team to identify improvement opportunities.
- FP&A analysis and cash flow management.
- Data Analysis: Compile and review monthly financial data to analyze operating metrics and identify inefficiencies.
- Policy Development: Develop and document key accounting policies, ensuring compliance with financial reporting and working capital management.
- Process Improvement: Responsible for designing and leading process improvement throughout the accounting and finance functions.
- Budget Planning: Collaborate with the operations team to develop the annual Caldera Lab budget and monitor all client billing to ensure timely collections.
- Strategic Initiatives: Partner with the leadership team to develop strategic initiatives and ensure annual business targets are met.
- Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary point of contact for all financial matters, building strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Training and Development: Facilitate ongoing financial training for managers to develop financial acumen and enhance employee engagement.
- Building and managing a best-in-class Finance & Accounting department.
- ERP: Finance lead with handling ERP conversion and external vendors.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, operations, or business administration; MBA & CPA preferred.
- 10 years of relevant accounting experience, including management of professional staff, preferably in high-growth retail or direct-to-consumer startups.
- Strong foundation in general accounting, financial reporting, and GAAP principles.
- Experience with state NEXUS laws and filings; Avalara experience is a plus.
- Experience with transitioning from QuickBooks to Netsuite or similar ERP.
- International and multi-entity consolidation experience is advantageous.
- Proficient in MS Excel, Google Sheets, and QuickBooks Online. Familiarity with ERP platforms such as Netsuite and sales platforms like Shopify.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to delivering accurate work within deadlines.
- Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment.
