The Part-Time Instructor, Massage Therapy (One position available at each campus-Caldwell and Watauga) provides accessible, quality learning experiences within the classroom, hands-on lab, skills practice, clinical evaluations, and distance learning setting. Instructor will work in group and one-on-one sessions, following and completing course objectives/competencies, assessing and retaining students, providing classroom management, completing required paperwork, caring for program equipment and materials, and complying with all CCC&TI policies and procedures. Courses may include Anatomy and Physiology, Deep Tissue, Athletic and Orthopedic, Kinesiology, and other units as appropriate. The Massage Therapy program is regulated by the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy and complies with all of the rules and regulations set forth in NC ADMINISTRATIVE CODE-INSTRUCTIONAL STAFF QUALIFICATIONS.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Essential Functions: Prepares the student for the Massage Therapy Licensure Exam (MBLEx) and licensure with the NC Board of Massage Therapy. Instructs required contact hours per week; prepares objectives, assignments, proctors and grades tests; prepares instructional materials and aids for each class taught. Teaches and demonstrates the skills, theory, and safety practices required for successful Massage Therapy practices. Provides Director, Health Services with objectives and course outlines for each class; begins and ends each class on time; turns in reports, final course grades, and other forms on time; revises course content and objectives as required with the approval of Director, Health Services: administers student evaluations with each course.Completes and turns in lesson plans to Director, Health Services prior to instruction. Schedules regular office hours for consultation with students and faculty; maintains records for student performances in each course taught; works closely with probationary advisees and counsel students in academic success and employment planning; keeps current on graduation requirements.Maintains student attendance roster and other paperwork associated with each course taught. Gains and utilizes knowledge of Learning Management System and ability to teach, create and deliver assignments online. Maintains prompt grading of student assignments in an online grade book.Keeps the Director, Health Services well informed of course activities and clinicals.Represents the College and the Continuing Education Department in a positive and professional manner. Marginal Functions: Participates in the development and delivery of public information efforts; supports college functions/cultural activities; assists in the placement of students.Assists in student registration process and advisement.Performs other duties as assigned. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Training: Licensed under the NC Massage and Bodywork Practice Act for at least two years; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited post-secondary institution with at least 12 semester credit hours of academic course work in the subject area they teach from such institution; or be a licensed physician, dentist, chiropractor, osteopath, registered nurse, physical therapist, occupational therapist, acupuncturist; or hold a state license or certification from a state other than North Carolina in massage and bodywork therapy for at least two years; if no such credential is available, hold a valid certification in massage and bodywork therapy for at least two years from an agency whose certification program is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies. An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree is preferred to teach Kinesiology or Anatomy and Physiology.Experience: At least two (2) years of current relevant work experience in massage therapy practice required.Teaching experience at a community college preferred.
