Overview
We are seeking a skilled Diesel Technician to join our team. An Automotive Diesel Technician, or Automotive Service Technician, fixes, inspects, and maintains cars, trucks, SUVs, and other vehicles for drivers. Their main duties include using tools to find any potential issues with someone’s vehicle, explaining problems with the car to the service advisor, and performing maintenance on the vehicle to fix it or prevent it from future breakdowns or issues.
Responsibilities
- Inspecting Diesel vehicles and diagnosing any required work to ensure the vehicle is repaired correctly the first time.
- Discussing required repairs with the service advisors.
- Learn and use X-time to is full capabilities.
- Attend weekly shop meetings.
- Lift weight up to 50lbs.
- Stay up to date on all factory required training, including being compliant within 30 days of hire.
- Calculating the expected time and cost of vehicle work accurately the first time.
- Repairing or replacing components as required
- Road testing vehicles to assess repair work.
- Fitting and servicing vehicle accessories.
- Performing service checks
- Performing vehicle maintenance tasks, such as changing oil and air filters, as required
- Cleaning and maintaining the work environment to ensure equipment longevity and workplace safety.
- Willingness to learn with hands-on training.
- Report any failing shop equipment, to ensure the safety of all employees and to ensure the vehicle is repaired correctly.
- Prepared to get additional certification as needed.
- Always maintain a professional appearance.
Experience
- Superior knowledge of Diesel motor vehicles and how to perform repair and maintenance tasks
- Verbal communication skills for explaining vehicle work to the service advisor in accessible terms and discussing vehicle cases with other team members.
- Customer service skills for positive interactions with vehicle owners
- Diagnostic and critical thinking skills for determining vehicle problems and how to resolve them.
- Manual dexterity for working on vehicle parts, including sensitive sensors and electronic components.
- Competency using diagnostic equipment.
- Mathematical skills for calculating quotes.
