JOB DESCRIPTION OF THE General Maintenance


Summary:

To help maintain the lawn and custodial equipment and equipment operator.


Required education, training, and experience:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Licensed as a locksmith by the NC Locksmith Licensing Board is preferred but not required.


  • Required - High school or GED diploma
  • An associate's degree is desirable. Four years of experience in private fields or at least journeyman level designation is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be accepted. A state contractor’s license is desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating/ maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Maintain all hand tools required for performing duties
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is often required to walk, use hands to handle and feel objects and tools, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, crawl and/or kneel.
  • The employee must regularly lift 50 pounds and sometimes up to 75 pounds. Specific vision ability required includes close vision.
  • Must have and maintain a valid NC driver’s license. CDL license preferred
  • Have a general knowledge of the standard practice, materials, and equipment used in carpentry, electrical, and plumbing.
  • Have knowledge of occupational hazards, necessary safety precautions, and applicable codes or regulations.
  • Be able to determine the cause of malfunction and effectively correct it with minimum supervision
  • Use measuring tools and test instruments needed for these trades. Follow oral and written instructions in English.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the maintenance director.


Essential duties and responsibilities:


  • Responsible for making necessary repairs of all district-owned buildings and equipment and maintaining all documentation relating thereto.
  • Performs minor repairs to lawn and custodial equipment as needed.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment
  • Ability to weld as needed
  • Must maintain a current listed and readily available telephone number and be subject to call for service twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Director.
  • Possess a responsible attitude toward job and co-workers.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars as assigned for the purpose of conveying and gathering information required to perform job functions.
  • Display the highest ethical and professional behavior in working around students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the schools.
  • Perform all duties and work assignments in accordance with district policies and procedures.


Evaluation:

  • Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of support personnel.

  • The employee will regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently move up to 100 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, hold; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee is frequently required to talk and hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to balance or climb.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • The job will be performed in an indoor/outdoor environment with widely varying temperatures that may require driving in inclement weather.
  • The employee will be subject to regular exposure to fumes, dust and odor, vehicle exhaust, dirt, oil, grease, and noise from equipment operation.
  • The employee will work around and with machinery and motorized equipment.
  • There may be changing priorities and interruptions during the workday.
  • The noise level is usually moderately high.
