Reports To: Directors of Student Service

Work Location: Central Office, Danville VT

Salary: Based on Experience

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary

The School Psychologist is directly responsible for the psychological assessment of academic, social, emotional, and behavioral domains utilizing problem-solving and standardized evaluations. The School Psychologist monitors the completion of case study evaluations and participates in Individual Education Plan (IEP) conferences and problem-solving meetings designing systems, programs and services that maximize students’ social, emotional, and educational success. In collaboration with staff, families, students, and communities the school psychologist promotes effective educational environments in our schools.

Job Duties

  • Conduct psychological assessments and interpret results for students and participate in IEP conferences, team meetings, and problem-solving meetings.
  • Provide insight into the development of functional assessments and behavior intervention plans as needed.
  • Provide assistance and recommendations to staff in the design and implementation of appropriate interventions and accommodations for students related to IEP needs.
  • Evaluate and/or translate research into practice and understand research design and statistics in sufficient depth to plan and conduct investigations and program evaluations for improvement of services.
  • Work collaboratively with other assessment team evaluators to ensure comprehensive evaluations.
  • Coordinate and/or collaborate with a range of individuals/agencies to promote and provide comprehensive evaluations to students and families.
  • Provide and/or assist in professional development for staff, parents, and/or school community as directed by Directors of Student Services.
  • Participate in professional growth activities on a yearly basis including workshops, in-services, professional reading materials, and/or other available offerings.
  • Proficiently use technology to communicate, compile reports, and collect data.
  • Participate in building or program activities and meetings as appropriate.
  • Assume other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential

duty satisfactorily, in addition to the following:

  • Education and Experience. Master Degree is required
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations. Holds or is eligible to hold a Vermont Teaching license with a School Psychologist endorsement.
  • Language Skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common educational and technical journals, periodicals, and procedures, and regulations. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents, regulatory agencies, or members of the community. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals that conform to school/district standards or regulations. Ability to effectively present information to and respond to questions from administrators, parents, peers, board members, and the general public.
  • Mathematical/Reasoning Skills. Ability to interpret and use test results by applying math concepts such as standard error of measurement, bands of confidence, standard scores, and percentiles. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Computer Skills and Experience. Good basic computer skills and experience with word processing programs required. Experience with Microsoft and Google preferred.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills. Ability to efficiently, effectively, and regularly communicate and work cooperatively with a variety of individuals, including students, peers, subordinates,supervisors, parents, and representatives of outside organizations. Ability to effectively handle stressful situations and resolve conflicts.

Physical Requirements

  • The work environment is in a mixed environment, with moderate noise, temperatures that are controlled, and no exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.
  • The work is light/moderate work, requiring exertion of up to 30 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
