Position: Head Coach - Varsity Soccer - Girls
Location: Caledonia High School
Duration: 1 Year Contract - renewable at the discretion of the Athletic Director
Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Athletic Director, the Varsity Coach is responsible for performing coaching functions for their designated sport. The Coach will develop individual and team proficiency by teaching and coaching individual students and teams in the skills of the sport, physical conditioning, safety, injury prevention and management, the rules and strategies of the game, team cooperation, and good sportsmanship.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Provides training for athletes on all rules and skills of the designated sport, training on physical conditioning and injury prevention, and development of skills through various drills and individual coaching
- Assists the Athletic Director in scheduling, and providing transportation to tournaments and special sporting events as required
- Assists in preparing for scheduled sporting events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times
- Maintains correspondence with players and parents to address any issues or concerns related to the team as requested by the Athletic Director
- Works with the Athletic Director, Counselors, and the Athletic Office to ensure that each athlete is academically eligible for participation
- Monitors athlete class attendance, behavior, academic progress and works with teachers to encourage academic growth
- Attends all practices and games as directed by the Athletic Director
- Monitors the inventory of athletic equipment (usage, storage, repair and cleaning of all equipment and uniforms)
- Regularly reviews publications and attends clinics to keep current with innovative ideas and techniques in the designated sport
- Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation within the school sports program
- Participate in MHSAA and work with local athletic teams to coordinate participation and practice schedules as needed
- As required, provides documentation to the Athletic Director to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility
- Performs other assignments as assigned by the Athletic Director
Employment Qualifications
- EDUCATION: This position requires a high school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.). Additional coursework or a Bachelor’s Degree in Education is preferred.
- EXPERIENCE: Successful coaching experience at the high school level or college coaching/playing experience is essential. Head Varsity Coaching experience is highly desirable.
- SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Must advise, coordinate, and support a staff of assistant coaches and student assistants.
- CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, OR REGISTRATIONS: CPR/First Aid Certification is desirable.

- Inform parents and student/athletes regarding NCAA clearinghouse registration deadlines and academic requirements, etc.
- Assist the Athletic Director in developing game schedules, practice schedules, facilities use, transportation needs, and the program budget
- Requisition supplies, materials, and equipment as needed
- Provide game results to the media; keep season and game-by-game statistics and records; provide statistical reports to the Athletic Director as needed and/or requested
- Provide statistical information, video, etc. to college recruiters upon request
- Request varsity awards and present at the awards banquet
- Stay abreast of students' academic eligibility and work with teachers and administration to help keep students eligible
- Assist the Athletic Director in selecting assistant coaches
- Apply discipline in a positive, firm, and consistent manner according to District policy
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal or Athletic Director
- The employee will pass a criminal background investigation
- The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to demonstrate motions of the sport such as running, lifting, physical impact, throwing, catching, swinging, etc. The employee is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
