The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for completing a variety of tasks to support the daily operations of the HR department. The duties include recruiting, onboarding, benefits, wellness, and employee relations. Maintaining confidentiality and ensuring compliance with employment laws, and firm policies and practices is essential for this role.
Responsibilities:
The main function of this role is to work with HR team members to administer and coordinate various HR programs, processes, and initiatives.
This includes:
- Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open staff and paralegal positions; collaborates with department managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
- Facilitates background checks and new hire onboarding process.
- Handles day-to-day employment related inquiries from employees and managers.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes and new technologies in human resources, talent management and employment law.
- Maintains electronic HR and employee files.
- Completes and maintains Form I-9 and conducts internal audits to ensure compliance.
- Assists with the leave administration process (i.e., FMLA, Non-FMLA, STD, LTD, and parental leave).
- Coordinates and assists with events, benefit administration, wellness and EAP programs.
- Handles timecard maintenance and tracking for staff.
- Responds to unemployment notices and verification of employment requests in a timely manner.
- Performs other duties as necessary to support the HR department.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration or related field.
- 3-5 years of human resources experience.
- Strong understanding of employment laws and regulations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and HRIS databases including recruiting and applicant tracking programs.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Professional recruiting experience using social media to promote open positions.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Exceptional writing, editing and written/verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously to meet required deadlines.
- Adaptable, flexible, and innovative problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Ability to interact with all levels of staff and attorneys.
