Position Summary

Provide competent classroom, laboratory, and instruction in the area of credentialed expertise. The instructor will adhere to the general faculty guidelines as specified by the Calhoun Community College Personnel Handbook, the Vice President of Academic Affairs, and the Alabama Community College System policy.


Salary:

Appropriate placement on ACCS Salary Schedule D: $42,108– $94,363 (9 months)

An additional summer assignment may be available: $13,001 – $29,184 (3 months)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise.
  2. Teach at varied times and places and in varied formats based on student demand; day or evening, at all sites, in the traditional classroom, hybrid, or web format.
  3. Evaluate the progress of students in all classes according to institutional, divisional, departmental, and individual criteria.
  4. Collect, maintain, and submit accurate class records including grades, absences, withdrawal, and/or class drop information to appropriate offices.
  5. Prepare or assist in the preparation of materials used in academic administration when requested, including course syllabi, program outlines, and catalog material.
  6. Participate in scheduled in-service activities.
  7. Provide academic and career advice to students and promote student leadership and enrichment experiences.
  8. Provide advice to the administration on matters pertaining to the instructional program.
  9. Be prompt and punctual in reporting for work. Maintain assigned office hours.
  10. Continue as competent instructor in the chosen specialty by seeking new knowledge, improving teaching skills, and updating professional competencies.
  11. Assist in the development of discipline-specific student learning outcome objectives.
  12. Assess student learning using multiple assessment strategies.
  13. Analyze and interpret data relative to student learning and provide feedback to the institution and students for the purpose of improving and expanding student learning.
  14. Promote positive and productive relationships with service area businesses, industries, and agencies.
  15. Serve on committees engaged in furthering the work of the institution when appointed or when elected.
  16. Perform all duties with professionalism.
  17. Become familiar with institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the College CatalogPersonnel Handbook, and Alabama Community College System Policy Manual; and follow such policies and procedures.
  18. Perform other appropriate professional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

 

Qualifications
  1. A minimum of an Associates Degree in aerospace, manufacturing technology or related field from an accredited institution is required.
  2. A minimum of three (3) years full-time work experience in Aerospace or related structural assembly including mechanical, electrical and instrumentation components and related testing is required.
  3. Demonstrated experience in blueprint reading, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and electrical layout is required.
  4. Documented evidence in the proficient use of current educational technologies including internet, email, and computer software programs (e.g. Microsoft, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and the willingness to develop and teach web-based courses is required.


Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their experiences and accomplishments:


  1. Bachelor's degree in Career Technical Education, Engineering or related field;
  2. Demonstrated expertise in the subject area.
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  4. Experience with Industrial Maintenance in large Industrial facilities?
  5. Knowledge and experience working with Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education and the Advanced Manufacturing Technician Programs;
  6. Excellent knowledge and understanding of process industries, quality programs such as ISO, Six Sigma, and safety/risk issues;
  7. Successful teaching experience in Advanced Manufacturing;
  8. Proven successful management of personnel, records, equipment, laboratories or shops, and facilities;
  9. Ability to review and update curriculum to meet changing industry needs;
  10. Demonstrated experience with establishing partnerships involving business and industry entities as well as 4 year institutions;
  11. Ability to conduct individual and small group instruction;
  12. Previous experience using Blackboard, or other course management software, from the standpoint of an instructor;
  13. Ability to learn new teaching pedagogy, and new software, as required;
  14. An understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of the community college system;
  15. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  16. Ability to deal effectively with diverse students, other employees, and the public;
  17. Commitment to all students, including those of diverse ages, cultures, and ethnic backgrounds;
  18. Understanding of the broad range of students' abilities in an open admissions college and the ability to accommodate varied learning styles;
  19. Successful problem solving skills;
  20. An understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of the community college system;
  21. Willingness and desire to learn new things and apply that learning;
  22. A positive attitude regardless of circumstances at hand;
  23. Confidence in decision making and communication skills.
