Under the general direction of the Food Services Manager, follows menu plans to prepare balanced meals for the residents of the Youth Center. - Prepares, cooks, and serves meals according to established menus, recipes, and nutrition guidelines.
- Follows instructions in preparing special meals that conform with individual dietary requirements.
- Cleans kitchen and cooking utensils to maintain facility to health code standards.
- Oversees residents assigned to kitchen in food preparation and cleaning activities.
- Assists in the ordering and proper storage of food items.
- Follows established safety and security guidelines, regularly monitors equipment and utensil levels.
- Restocks pantries and other food storage areas.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- The job requires knowledge normally acquired through the completion of a high school education or equivalent.
- Some kitchen experience and Food Handler’s Certification preferred.
- Experience working with youth preferred.
- Mental ability to periodically handle pressures related to meeting deadlines, fulfilling scheduling requirements, etc.
- Work includes attention to detail, time management, and listening skills.
- Physical ability to occasionally transport items weighing up to fifty pounds. Incumbent is periodically required to stoop, bend or kneel to accommodate different working positions and is frequently required to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time.
