What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle/High School Counselor position at Calhoun County Schools?
Reports to: Principal
Education, Certification, and Experience:
- Minimum - Master's Degree in Guidance or School Counseling from an accredited college or university
- At least 3 years of successful experience in teaching
- Exhibits organizational and management skills
- Georgia Certificate in School Counseling
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works as a liaison between students and staff
- Provides students with strategies to reduce behaviors that put them at risk
- Knowledgeable of alternative education opportunities
- Collaborates with teachers, graduation coaches, and administrators and others to identify students at-risk of dropping out of school
- Assists students with future plans such as college, military, vocational school, or job interests
- Tracks the progress of individual students and subpopulations of students as they progress toward graduation
- Maintains student permanent records; which includes immunization records, state test results
- Reports abuse to DFACS and sheriff’s department
- Orders and organizes materials for and administers PSAT, SAT
- Indentifies students eligible for HOBY, Governor's Honors, STAR student and other scholarships
- Counsels individual students and conducts group sessions on various topics as needed
- 504 Coordinator for the school
- Assists with RTI and SST meetings
Conducts classroom guidance
- Organizes with assistance from CTAE director and others a career day whenever feasible
- Channel all official business through the Principal of the school to the Superintendent and other school officials
- Complies with school, system, state and federal regulations and policies, including the PSC Code of Ethics.
Evaluation:
- Performance of this job will be evaluated consistent with Calhoun County School System evaluation policy.
