The Payroll Processing Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely calculation of On Cycle and On Demand payroll processes using Workday to ensure our 37,000 teammates are paid every Friday. The Payroll Specialist follows all processing procedures, check lists and quality controls to meet processing deadlines and achieve accuracy expectations. The Payroll Specialist provides excellent customer service to assist teammates with inquiries of routine to moderate complexity.
Role and Responsibilities
- Reconciles payroll settlements to the tax remittance and validates timeliness of tax deposit processing
- Opens new state & local tax accounts and monitors through “applied for” status
- Tracks agency notices and coordinates with third-party on resolution
- Reviews UI accounts and reconciles state rates in Workday with claim administrator
- Researches inquiries from Accounting & Treasury departments and provides monthly accruals/reporting
- Works with Payroll Processing team on tax adjustments at month, quarter and year-end
- Key contributor to year end processing and W2 preparation
- Reconcile garnishment withholdings against third-party remittance
- Supports internal audit requests by providing reporting, backup and resolving inquiries
- Coordinates with payroll tax consultant on recovery opportunities
- Administers Time Off plans configured in Workday including accrual rates and Grant Time awards.
- Assists with the testing of new functionality and other system/process changes affecting payroll tax, garnishment processing or Time Off.
- Research and resolve payroll tax, garnishment and Time Off inquires from teammates in a timely and accurate manner using case management system
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Associates Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or commensurate experience.
- 2-3 years of payroll processing experience.
- Familiarity with payroll practices, processes, and related regulatory requirements.
Preferred Skills
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to interface with teammates and managers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of products including intermediate Excel skills (vlookup, pivot tables, control totals, etc.).
- Automotive repair industry experience specifically with Flag pay is preferred, but not required.
