Extrusion Subject Matter Expert

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the extrusion of plastics to join our team. The SME will be responsible for providing technical expertise and leadership across all stages of the extrusion process, ensuring the production of high-quality plastic products. This role requires a deep understanding of materials, machinery, process optimization, troubleshooting, and quality control in the field of plastic extrusion. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the plastic extrusion industry, along with the ability to mentor, guide, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Technical Expertise: Serve as the go-to expert for all technical matters related to plastic extrusion, including die design, material selection, process parameters, machine operation, and troubleshooting.
• Die Design: Lead and support the design, modification, and optimization of extrusion dies, ensuring uniform material flow and high-quality product output. Collaborate with engineering teams to address design challenges and improve die performance.
• Process Optimization: Drive efforts to improve extrusion processes, enhance die designs, increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality.
• Training & Mentorship: Provide training and guidance to production staff, engineers, and other team members on extrusion processes, die design principles, best practices, and safety protocols.
• Quality Control: Oversee and support quality control initiatives to ensure final products meet customer specifications and industry standards. Provide technical input to resolve product defects related to extrusion die design.
• Problem-Solving: Analyze and resolve technical issues related to extrusion equipment, die design, material flow, and product defects. Provide recommendations for process adjustments to optimize die performance.
• Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, manufacturing, engineering, and product development teams to integrate new processes, technologies, and products, focusing on the design and optimization of dies for new applications.
• Equipment & Maintenance: Assist in the evaluation, setup, and optimization of extrusion machinery and die designs. Provide recommendations for maintenance schedules and upgrades.
• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain thorough documentation of extrusion processes, die design specifications, machine settings, troubleshooting logs, and performance metrics.
• Industry Trends: Stay up to date with the latest advancements in extrusion die design, technology, materials, and industry regulations, and share relevant insights with the team.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in plastic extrusion, with a proven track record of die design, process optimization, and troubleshooting.
• In-depth knowledge of polymer materials, extrusion machinery, and die design principles.
• Strong understanding of quality standards, testing methods, and regulatory requirements in the plastics industry.
• Experience with CAD software and simulation tools for die design (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Moldflow).
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Ability to mentor and train others effectively.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
